I suspect Rasmus will platoon with Marisnick just like Valbuena may end up platooning with Dominguez at 3B (Rasmus and Valbuena will play more as left handed hitters).

I suspect the same with rasmus and Marsinick.

I like Marsinick, but I don't think he's ready to take over as an everyday starter yet. For that reason I'm cool with the Rasmus deal, especially if it's just a one year deal like what's been rumored so far.

Yeah he was a serviceable backup for sure.

Funny they DFA'd him. Rumors last year were that he had some trade value at the deadline with several teams interested

I was hoping we could trade Corpy. He wouldn't get us much, but it's better than nothing. Rumors just last week was that the Rangers were looking at him hard. Oh well..

He'll be picked up by someone quickly.

I don't like this at all. We've got too many Rasmuses already.

Gonna be a shitton of k's. Hope they are bringing in an incredibly talented shrink to keep the pitching staff from jumping off bridges after all the 1-0 and 2-0 losses.

There will be games where they score 15 followed by shutouts or one run. It's going to be weird to watch. They will be on no hit watch every night.

I'm on the fence about Rasmus. I guess we will see.

With that said, how many of you think the moves this offseason is because of panic pressure from Luhnow to put a product on the field or we still are in the middle of "The Plan?"

Damn we are building a K a machine . Going to be fun when we hit on all cylinders and score 9-10 runs but hard to watch when we can't score worth a crap and strikeout up and down the lineup. This said i'm glad we are making some moves to bolster the lineup even if they are keen to strike out a lot. I'm pumped for the season.

This is exactly why I'm ok with all these deals. After how bad the stros have been these past few seasons, I'll take some strikeout prone guys to be competitive again.

Nothing new. We set the season record in 2013 and were 5th all time last year. The difference is, we're adding guys with some pop to hopefully offset that. Strikeouts are up across the league anyway. It's not just us.

I'm good with rolling the dice on a 1 year deal like this. We're actually fielding a team of major leaguers. As Drellich put it on twitter, for a little more than Fowler's 2015 price, they created 3 players

Yeah, I'm kind of have mixed feelings on this. Maybe I misunderstood, but I always thought "the Plan" was to build the farm with quality depth... coach them up, and then "fill the holes with quality stars, especially a front-line starter".

They are filling holes, but damn if they aren't creating some others. And where are the big names that Luhnow and Crane said that they'd go after?

Oh yeah... next year. So, if that's the case, why Rasmus? It just doesn't make sense.

I hope they are trying to build on last year to bridge to the farm with another 70-75ish win year without breaking the bank, not actually expecting this team to win anything of consequence

I actually like what they've done so far. They've improved from last season to the offseason and now hopefully into the 15 season. The trend continues to climb. I think they did a good job finding and plugging their holes. There's no ace yet, but next year, whenever those kids in the minors are more mature and start moving up, they can start replacing the Rasmus', Hoes, and Presley's.

Add that onto the ridiculous amount of starting pitching on the market in next year's free agency, I really like where this is heading.

I'll gladly welcome Johnny Cueto or Jordan Zimmerman.

O/U on team average is .260 haha

ETA: Probably should have put it down around .235.

I guess we gotta think that the Vogey deal gets done today.

We have a full 40 man roster so somebody else would have to hit the road

Last year Baltimore led the league with 211 home runs with a .256 team Batting Average.

O/U Astros hitting 211 home runs this year?
