Yea, I understand Correa feeling his value is higher than the offer on the table, but at the same time I understand why the Astros started where they did.

The dude has played in more than 120 games once in his four full years up. Hard to warrant a 200+ mil contract not knowing how many games you are going to get out of the guy. The way he handled the scandal over last offseason and his performance in the 2020 postseason was super impressive and should have earned him a higher initial offer but, that's just my opinion. He can pout or he can go back to the table and allow the Astros another chance to up their offer.

I love Correa and would love for him to be extended, if it doesn't happen oh well hope he goes out this year and plays out of his mind and wins the Astros lots of games and then goes to free agency.

Offering 20M per year and then moving up to 25M with an out clause after year 2 or 3 perhaps ends up as the compromise before the season opener?

Yep.

And if he doesn’t take the next offer, trade his arse for some pitching depth.

It won't be 6/150. When Trout, Betts, Cole. Harper and Machado are getting $300+ million plus Lindor is going to come close to that number. Correa believes himself to be one of the best players in the game. He's not going to take $150 million. He'll bet on himself and go to free agency which could be a $100 million difference with a big year.

I think Carlos realizes that SOME team will pay him as if he’s played 150 games per year simply based on his talent, and they are negotiating from that position.

His agent and the Astros should have a good idea about who will have money to spend and how much for a very small group of good free agents this off-season. If Carlos is going to get $30 million though, he'll have to earn it this season.

For sure and he and his team should 100% negotiate from that position, and I don't blame him for doing that.

I also don't blame the Astros going for 6/120 considering Bogaerts is a pretty good comp to Correa production wise and X plays >145 games a season more often than not.

Again, personally, I'd have offered him 6/150 with an option to opt out after the 2nd year and maybe a 7th year player option. If he balks at that then see ya.

The big thing that worries me about Correa walking... he strikes me as the type of guy that will keep rehashing the garbage can scandal over and over... sensationalizing and turning himself into a victim each season, just to keep he and Ms. Texas popular with his new fan base.

We would never hear the end of how “the Astros made me cheat and then cast me out with the trash” type sob stories.

That's actually a very fair deal. If he wants to bet on himself that's fine, but I think $25 million a year despite his injuries would be more than fair for him now.

I don't like the opt out so early, but maybe an opt out after 4.

And put in some incentives for games played or ABs or other All-Star, MVP votes, etc. achievements.

Really good points. Incentive the hell out of the deal, give him a comfortable salary and the ability to earn way over that by being healthy and staying on the field.

Strom hasn't been bashful about talking about a 6 man rotation. If Framber comes back sooner rather than later and everybody is performing well enough, I wonder if they'll go that route. If may not be the worst idea with a 37 year old, a guy with an injury history who hasn't pirched more than 130 innings and 2 young pitchers.

For that to work, they'll probably need enough talent in reserve to be able to fill in for injuries so they aren't forced to revert back to a 5-man rotation in mid stream. Maybe, maybe not...as long as they can save some wear-and-tear on starters for at least a portion of the season doing it.

I suppose it could work.

Yeah I don't know how the mechanics of it would work out of how feasible it is over a full season. Just mentioning Strom has seemingly been open to the idea.

I've loved the little bit I've seen from Kent Emmanuel this spring, he was such a monster at UNC.

Hopefully he's just a late developer and can give the Astros some big league innings once his suspension is up. Does anyone know off the top of their head how much more of it he has to serve?

Totally forgot Emanuel. Throwing 92 with his command is promising. He definitely will see innings of some sort this year.
