So what's your scouting background IYO? And can you watch and break down film like he can? I'll hang up and listen.

Good point. That place is a QB graveyard.

Neither has Ja’Marr, but he has him going at #3.

Yes, he still has Ja’Marr as his highest rated receiver. It seems that Slater’s stock rose enough this year that some view him on the level of Sewell. No one has seen Sewell in a year. It’s just his opinion but it’s based on watching tape of Sewell last year and Slater this year. I also think Slater’s value is that he could potentially fit in anywhere along the OL, and maybe DJ still likes Jonah Williams at LT and just likes the fit of an elite versatile O lineman for the Bengals since they need help everywhere.

Sewell may end up blowing up his workout and DJ and everyone else will lock him in the OT1 spot in every mock beyond that point. I’d personally be surprised if Sewell isn’t the first one taken but I don’t watch his game film or any other lineman so I’m not going to criticize someone who actually does.

Also I think it’s better when the various draft writers have differing opinions which reflect in their mocks. There would be little to talk about if every mock was the exact same. It’s content based on conjecture, it’s supposed to be fun and intended to drive discussion, no one is claiming it to be scientific.

most lists I have seen have Bama with 4 and he has them with two. Has this guy been anywhere close to accurate on his previous drafts?

Pretty much all these draft guys do one of two things:

1. Throw a bunch of shite at the wall and hope something sticks.

2. Be sockpuppets for front offices.

Slater didn’t play this year either. He’s had Slater above Sewell for a while and apparently it’s a pretty common opinion in scouting circles. I’m not sure where the Sewell is the best OL in a decade stuff came from originally but a lot of people ran with it.

Is this guy like a Skip Bayless troll? That's a terrible mock draft.

Trey Lance ahead of Justin Fields

Sewell at #10

Rashawn Slater at #5

Broncos taking a corner at 9, especially if it's not Surtain

Etienne at #23 and ahead of Najee

Those stand out

Explain how that's terrible? Have you taken the time to study both prospects?

4. Atlanta Falcons Trey Lance · QB

This was the 1st surprise for me. I had heard about him as a potential NFL prospect, but didn’t know too much about him and certainly didn’t think he was a threat to go top 5. So I looked him up on Wiki. Some interesting info:

—he’s 6’4” 226
—doesn’t turn 21 until May
—father played CB in college and the CFL and World League
—father said he couldn’t teach him QB mechanics, but did teach him “ what frustrated cornerbacks about good passers and how to take advantage of poor ones. As such, Trey's backyard education in quarterbacking had less to do with how to throw and more to do with how to beat a defense.”
—had a great arm in high school, but they ran the wing-T, so he didn’t have much passing stats, so...
—he was not recruited by any P5s to play QB—most wanted him as a WR or DB
—he really wanted to go to Minnesota, but Fleck wanted him to play safety
—only started 1 season at NDSU, and as a redshirt freshman, completed 70% of his passes (9.7 y/a) for 2,786 yards with 28 TDs with 0 interceptions and a 180.6 passer rating
—set an all divisions NCAA record for most passes in a season (287) without an interception
—also ran for 1,100 yards on 169 attempts (6.5 y/c) and 14 touchdowns
—and oh yeah, led his team to a 16-0 record and the NCAA Division National Championship and was named Most Outstanding Player of the NCG. He was only 6/10 for 72 yards, but did rush for 166 yards and a TD
—won both the Walter Payton and Jerry Rice Awards

I know that’s a lot info and it may not necessarily translate to NFL success, but it’s still pretty damn impressive, and I can see why he may find himself in that 2-4 QBs mix with Wilson and Fields.

People thought he was a lock top 5 guy going into last year but having nearly zero tape on him cooled down his projections a bit

Someone is just gonna take a flier on those tools.

I could see Arthur Smith and the Falcons being that team.
