I think his take at the end that having Simpson in the 15 to 20 range is better than Mendoza at 1 makes a lot of sense.

sure but its also a bit of a cop out hiding behind "value" in the argument. If you're saying Simpson is QB 1 then you just need to say you think the Raiders should go Simpson at 1.1 cause that's where QB1 goes in nearly most drafts that have such worthy player.

Much respect to @danorlovsky7 for saying it with his chest. Time will tell which one is better, but it possible the football world might be too high on Mendoza as a No.1 overall pick and too low on Simpson as QB2 (2nd round). The truth lies somewhere in the middle with each QB..

Mendoza doesn’t have a lot of “take over the game” contests on his resume, but he does have a collection of franchise QB moments. He also played for a play designer who routinely scripted “winners” utilizing creative concepts. His IQ, toughness and “clutch” genes stand out as strengths, but he is more managerial than transcendent in his play, which is ok. It’s just not typical of some over viewed as QB1 or the No.1 player in the class.

Simpson plays like a clinician from the pocket. His footwork and mechanics are polished, and he flashes plenty of precision in his play. However, his inexperience (15 starts) is a major red flag, based on recent history. Additionally, he lacks prototypical size, which makes his 2025 injuries raise durability concerns. With his slump at the end of season also raising red flags after a sizzling start, it is fair to wonder if he is a “flash in the pan” or a budding star who simply needs more time to develop.

Considering how decision makers to judged harshly on the play of the QB (SEE: Vikings’ ex-GM), the team builder handing in the card with either name runs the risk of losing their job if the gamble doesn’t work out.

That’s why the anonymous quotes and polls mean nothing unless they’re willing to hitch their jobs to their opinions..

If Simpson can end up on a team with a veteran QB, like the Rams, he could easily end up the best in this class.

Then just stay in school and get actual game reps.

There’s so little actual practice time in the modern NFL that the days of backups actually practicing is a bygone era. Teams value college starts and passes thrown now more than ever.

There’s a good 6+ games straight where Ty’s film is about as elite as it gets.

Is he closer to that, or what we saw later in the year?

If you want to, one could argue the HORRIBLE OL and run game and possibly an injury were the reasons he wasn’t able to keep the high level of play going.

When things are right, he’s capable of elite QB play.

Simpson has negative QB effect in college.

He's going to be terrible in the NFL.

Kenny Pickett, whom he is sometimes compared to, had a much better QB effect in college, and he has been dogshit in the NFL.

ESPN talking heads create the news in the morning and then they discuss such hot takes the rest of the day.

Think it just depends on what organization he could latch on to.

Dan Orlovsky and Ty Simpson are represented by the same agency.

Not sure why this is such a controversial take.

This QB class is the worst we’ve seen in a long time, not a real NFL QB1 in the group.

That said, while Mendoza is a great story and had a great college career, his NFL career will look a whole lot closer to Tim Tebow’s than people want to admit.

Taking him 1 in the draft will end up costing a GM his job

It's the Raiders, it doesn't matter who they pick. They will suck.

Well duh. Unless you're Eric Crouch and Charlie Ward, pretty much every Heisman championship QB gets slobbered on if he comes out fresh off a season of accolades. Remember, Leinart just being penciled in at #1 like Mendoza after crushing Oklahoma with his Heisman?

Nah...But the NFL QB position is so dumbed-down these days you never know...clipboard holders with feet can make a living.
