Rah-rah runs out pretty quick in the NFL

No scheme no chance

He was personally responsible for Jared Cook who played with less passion than a 5 year old girl forced to watch football

Lions new head coach Dan Campbell on how he ended up with the job: "I told my agent Rick Smith, make sure they think I'm [Iowa State head coach] Matt Campbell. I think that's how this has really worked out for me."

Even outside of Cook our TE play has been spotty at best. Dunno how you can look at what he's done that screams HC material. I mean Payton had him on staff because he was Campbell's coach in some regard for 3 different teams over Campbell's playing career.

I think Campbell is less the "I'm going to come up with some scheme to kill the opponent" and more the "I'll bite the head off of a pigeon in the locker room" kind of coach.

Isn't that basically what Matt Patricia was? And on that note, what playoff coaches fit that mold these days? And I'm not saying coaches can't have an edge. Payton certainly talks a lot of shite but at his heart he's a playcaller and schemer.

Hope it works out for them but I'm pretty baffled by the hire, and it's not even really to do with his little speech, I just don't think he's qualified.

Patricia was supposed to be a smart defensive coach.

Patricia was a know it all a-hole that lacked skins on the wall for his attitude

I think Campbell could actually do well

John Harbaugh was a special teams coach. I don’t think he’s rah rah like this but he’s not an X’s and O’s guy on one side of the ball. I’m not optimistic about the chances of it working but don’t necessarily blame Detroit for trying something different as well with how bad they’ve been.

The GM they hired does sound promising IMO. That’s a huge piece of this

Just because a dude puts a pencil behind his ear doesn't mean he's smart.

Proves that being a football coach is harder than being a rocket scientist.

Yeah all we can do is wait and see. The Bills did a magnificent turnaround with a new GM and HC in Beane and McDermott after a few years. So maybe this could work and I can be wrong and I'll eat my crow if it does work. Just still didn't get why Campbell was the dude, what about him makes him HC material?
