He wouldn't be on the ballot for anyone to vote for him.

he can play in the absolute bare minimum amount of games needed to qualify to be on the ballot and then immediately retire and id still vote for him even if he was a net negative player between now and then

Fair enough, but if he did that he would be one and done.

Would you vote for Andrew McCutchen?

suprised no mention of machado yet. He should have more than 50 WAR by the end of the season and he isnt even 30 yet.
Posted on 8/12/22 at 9:21 pm to ShaneTheLegLechler
mookie is pretty safely over the average peak war threshold right now
mccutchen isnt and isnt really close

7x All Star
World Series MVP
Most HRs ever for a catcher
Shame on each and every 1 of you

That’s nice. Their careers through age 29 are still very similar
Regardless if Betts did what you say he would have zero chance of getting in

Mookie is easily on a HOF pace, but that doesn't mean he's 100% in.
The only people that are 100% in are the ones that are in the no doubt category if they retired today.
Mookie isn't there yet. Neither was Pujols or Miggy at age 29. And their age 29 stats dwarf Betts.

He must have meant single season.

Kershaw, Altuve, verlander, Cabrera, judge, Freeman, wainwright, Molina, Soto,

A) You missed the most obvious one.
B) Pump the brakes on Soto.

Current MLB players who will 100% be in the HOF
This is a much smaller list than some answers in this thread will indicate. Barring some off field stuff, I believe these are the current locks. I'm sure I'm forgetting one or two guys as well.
Pujols
Cabrera
Scherzer
Kershaw
Verlander
Trout
deGrom (don't care about his low win total)
Yadi (
Again, I'm sure I'm missing one or two guys, but it really doesn't seem like a much longer list than this.

Like Betts, he isn't eligible yet. Far from a lock although I would bet on both in the long run.

McCutchen gets hit pretty hard on the defensive metrics because he played a bad center instead of playing in a corner like Betts. Defensive metrics 8-10 years ago were pretty bad also. I’m guessing BR is just using UZR
Regardless it’s dumb hypothetical. Andruw was better than Betts and did basically what he’s describing and can’t get in
