This is about MJ and LeBron, no one else. The fact that MJ never lost a Finals in 6 tries and likely didn't play in 8 consecutive only because of personal tragedy and his employer telling him to take some time off absolutely has weight on the GOAT individual basketball player argument.
If I'm picking first in a historical NBA draft, I'm taking LeBron James. Sorry.

Can't fault ya there. If i'm picking one player to make a big play in crunch time, it's Michael.

Cant fault anyone for their choices really unless they are scrubs.
No one we are talking about is a scrub.
Kareem in my eyes is the quintessential and consumate champion. He has won at every level and was a true all around talent with little weakness outside possibly rebounding.
Id take him over anyone. It isnt a wrong choice and it isnt the right choice. It is a choice based on personal preference.
Lebron is the best basketball player I have ever seen all-around. The perfect weapon on the court for various reasons. He falls short only in his mid-range game in my personal opinion and has limited him at times within his career.
Michael is the best offensive player along with Kareem and Wilt I have ever seen. Those three were offensively unstoppable. Detroit and New York began to really play Mike physical early in his career and Mike became the most lethal mid range jump shooter in history. Defensively he was incredible also, but he wasnt the passer like Lebron or the rebounder. He couldnt defend multiple positions like Lebron either.

you know what these threads prove...how insecure the leFanbois are.
always go 10+ pages of them arguing any way they can about how their closeted gay hero is "great"

Losing in the finals doesn’t mean you were the second best team. All of the teams the Lakers beat in the WCF in their three-peat, were better than the Eastern Conference representative...If you are bragging about your guy MAKING a finals, you should know that you have the wrong guy.

Since it has been discussed ad nausea in this thread, I won't really get into the age difference. In year 14, Michael was what, 4 years older than Lebron? Big difference, but again, doesn't matter for the point being made.
ETA: Plus, how many teams would have done the same for Jordan if instead of retiring in 98, he asked for a trade? Probably everyone of them. I was still averaging 28 points per game.
The point Cowherd is arguing is more to the physical/athletic ability of Lebron more than anything else. Nobody will ever argue the freakish athletic ability Lebron has. He definitely has an edge there over MJ (and that is no slight to MJ). Lebron's longevity has been impressive. That is all one can gain from Cowherd's point.

Lebrons longevity has been impressive.
And Cleveland has really fricked up managing his minutes in the regular season these past few years considering their seeding would have made very little difference

Michael was All-Defensive First Team 9 times in his career, so for this thread's sake LeBron has 3 more to go to catch him. Bron may be more flexible as far as matchups go, but MJ was one of the best defenders in the league for the majority of his career. Just a quick reminder for anyone who only remembers him for his offense.

There's no other pro athlete in my lifetime i was sadder to see retire than him. Maybe Bo Jackson.

So the amount of times you're named to the All-Defensive First Team means you're a superior defender than anyone else? I don't get this logic, if you've been named to the All-Defensive First Team at all in your career and have proven yourself capable of playing great defense, you're as good a defender as the other guy because both possess that elite capability and were recognized as such

Kobe was All-Defensive First Team 9x as well therefore he's a better defender than Dennis Rodman, who seriously thinks like this?

Magic played center because Kareem got hurt. This was before worthy et al joined the team. Sixers team was loaded with all Stars.

Lakers were too: Norm Nixon, Michael Cooper, Keith Wilkes, etc

Ya don't say? Of course it doesn't make him a better defender, but apparently LeBron defenders don't like it when I post facts that add to the debate.

Literally no one thinks like this. But go ahead and keep on with your Jump to Conclusions mat.

Cowherd is on the pro-Lebron side of the argument, that should tell you how stupid it is and end the discussion.

This is 100% false Jordan absolutely guarded multiple positions and was easily a better defender than Lebron ever was. Jordan is the best defensive player of alltime.

Jordan couodnt guard the 3, 4, or 5 whatsoever. Bird ate his arse up if he was ever defensing him. Hell, Magic ate his arse up from the 1 every time they played just about. Think Mike could guard McHale, Barkley, Malone?
Mike was the very good on-ball 1 and 2 defender, but wasnt even the best on his team with Scottie more versatile at defending more positions.
