I'm gonna post this one more time. Then I'm done.
Coaching decisions, bad throws, turnovers, missed blocks, overrun plays, bad angles, etc...are all designed to affect the outcome of a game. Those things are meant to affect the outcome. Cause and effect.
Refereeing is not meant to affect the outcome of the game. The folks saying things like "missed calls are part of the game" are simply wrong. They are there for the opposite reason, to ensure breaking the rules does NOT affect the outcome of the game. Refereeing should go unnoticed, for the most part. Like a good boss, who leaves you alone when not needed but is there to make sure everything is being done correctly.
So, this brings us to looking at coaching and player mistakes in the same vacuum as refereeing mistakes. It is a bit of a strawman logical fallacy to dumb down a blatant mistake by a referee to "well, play and coach better and you don't have to worry about it".
Yes, the Saints could have played better. That certainly affected the outcome, as it does in every game, in all sports, in the history of competition.
But that has absolutely nothing to do with a late missed call that changed the outcome of a game. They are separate issues.
you sound like a bitch.

Let us not forget that the Saints unilaterally playing better, per the exhortations, does not happen. There is a team on the other side of the ball with great players and great coaches teaching them, that are playing just as hard to ensure that Saints do NOT play better.
Officials do not have another team trying to keep them from being good and accurate.
exactly. And they shouldn't. The entire point is that blown calls should not be a thing in the NFL in today's times. Maybe 50 years ago. The technology is too great to miss a call like that.
But that's considered whining. At least until the rule is changed and everyone benefits. Not to mention this particular missed call and fan reaction has really cast a light on just how much the NFL shields it's officials from the public.

Consider yourselves martyrs for change in the NFL.
The Packers helped get instant replay installed when Rice blatantly fumbled and Pack recovered, it was missed, and they scored the winning touchdown right after: LINK
The Packers also took a bullet that lead to the end of replacement officials: LINK
Dez Bryant's "non catch" lead to the latest review of what is and what is not a catch (and potentially/likely cost them the game): LINK
The bullshite tuck rule and Brady cost the Raiders a chance to win their game in the playoffs.
In short, it's happened multiple times where it's cost teams a game and lead to a rule change, so welcome to the hill we've all also died on.

2001 Divisional vs Raiders:
32/52, 312 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT, 70 rating
Puts up only 16 points, gets bailed out by the Tuck Rule & Patriots win the game 16-13
Even though the Tuck Rule play happened, he still had to get the Pats in position TWICE to tie and win the game with field goals, we acknowledge stuff for what they were but he fulfilled his end of the bargain after that play

2003 Super Bowl vs Panthers (SB 38):
32/48, 354 yards, 3 TD, 1 INT, 100.5 rating
Brady played really well, but with the game tied with 1:08 left, THE PANTHERS KICK THE BALL OUT OF BOUNDS & GIVE THE PATS THE BALL AT THE 40
This leads to the game-winning FG.
One of the craziest Super Bowls of all-time because neither team could score the first half then an offensive explosion occurs the 2nd half and Brady balled out, Panthers didn't help themselves with that mistake but Brady was great so I'm not gonna use that to trash his performance
quote:
2001 Super Bowl vs Rams (SB 36):
16/27, 145 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT, 86.2 rating
Brady's offense scores only 13 POINTS, but his defense forces 3 turnovers (one being a pick-six) and the Patriots win the Super Bowl.
Somehow, Brady won Super Bowl MVP with this performance.
Even though it wasn't a dominant statistical game from TB12, a ton of his legend was born on that drive when Madden's advising they should play for overtime but TB12 handled everything like a pro and got them in position to kick the winning field goal, made some crucial completions
quote:
2007 AFCCG vs Chargers:
22/33, 209 yards, 2 TD, 3 INT, 66.4 rating
Another awful performance but guess what... THE PATRIOTS WIN AGAIN. Defense allows only 12 points and carries Brady back to another Super Bowl.
Ah the game where Philip Rivers tried to play on a torn ACL and LT left the game early with knee problems, just a clusterfrick of a game bc neither team played very well from an offensive standpoint

One of the dumbest overused and inaccurate statements. Of course there is such thing as bad publicity. You think Ronaldo is happy about his rape allegations being publicized?
