I watched that short clip of Herman's presser. There are all kinds of context issues here.

Herman has been taking shots across the bow for a few months for recruiting purposes. He put a screenshot of weather in March saying something like "can't believe i was living in this just 3 years ago" or something. he also put up Zeke Elliott and Braxton Miller on a Texas recruiting poster, saying they had been developed by their coaches.

I think every former coordinator who is now a head coach tries to promote the people they used to coach. Why is that a bad thing?

I think part of it is Aranda wanting to show his chops more and set himself up for a better head coach job down the road.

Easier to do that when he gets a second year in the system, paid a shite ton and being more popular than the new head coach, than taking on a rebuilding job elsewhere which has a chance of wrecking his career progression.

That's not even going into the inherent problems of putting together a great D in the Big 12, which runs a ton of Air Raid offenses and has a reputation as a no-D league.

I have never seen or heard a current head coach promote former players from other schools directly onto their current schools marketing materials.

Yea I said i wasn't sure if that was a thing or not. OSU fans took it as a subtle shot

Did Kirby take credit for all the Alabama guys in the NFL when he came over? I would be curious if that does happen a lot

Urban knew the road to the title was much easier at Ohio State.

Are you telling me you think it's easier to get through the B1G East than the SEC East right now? I realize to win the SEC you have to beat Bama, but you probably have to beat Bama to win the title anyway. That's just how it has been the last 5-10 years.

The SEC East still has to play a title game at the end of the season.

Losing to Bama in the final game of the regular season shits on your chances for a playoff berth.

Does not negate his point of still having to beat Bama usually to win title.

Looks better in recruiting to say "We were in the CFB playoff or final" than "We played in the Capitol One Bowl because we got assrammed in the SEC title game."

UF has LSU on their schedule every year, and would also have to beat the best in the West in the SEC Champ game to get to the playoff. And some years Bama would be their other West matchup. That's a tall order compared to just about anything else.

When his bitch arse left, the answer to your question is YES.

you're telling me if you replaced OSU with Florida this year and just switched them that OSU wouldn't be 100% the favorite to destroy the rest of the SECe? UF would get destroyed by Penn State and Michigan. Oh wait, that second thing already happened.

If you're talking about 2010-2012, then I kind of agree more, but the tides have changed, in large part due to Meyer going to the B1G

Yeah, the current make up of the SEC East and Big whatever is irrelevant.

Well, that's exactly what he just did. Wonder how that plays in the locker room?

But you left because Saban kicked your arse a combined 63-19 in 2009 and 2010. Once Tebow left, you could see that winning at Florida wasn't going to be near as easy. I really don't like Harbaugh but I'm hoping he starts beating Urbs just to see how long it takes for Irving to end up in the ER with chest pains.

Maybe Irving Meyers is the name he gave at the ER.....

chose to stay in Baton Rouge

well there's probably a number of issues in play there

-Coaching defense in the big 12....not a great career move
-Probably didn't want to uproot the family again
-The money was likely better here, Ed and LSU HAD to keep Aranda
-Strong has recruited OK defensive talent, but lets call it like it is, the defensive talent here is far superior. Why go start on a rebuild when you're set up to have a dominant unit the next few seasons? He sits tight here for another season or two and he'll have suitors from all over.

At the time he left? Yes with 100% certainty it was easier. Now if we are discussing current situation it is a different story since they don't have to even win the big 10 to make the playoff.

Meyer saw 14 of his recruits selected in the three drafts after his departure following the 2010 season. "You had Jeff Driskel, Chris Rainey, Jeff Demps, that whole defense got drafted," Meyer pointed out.
If they were so great, Urban, why'd you fake heart problems to get out of town?
