I believe that there are maybe 3-5 ncaa golfers each year that you could throw on to the PGA tour and they would keep their card for the next year. (Cauley, Cantwell, Uihlein) guys like that.

Maybe. To get on tour, you need to have 4 good tournies(q school). To finish in the top 125 is tough. 1 good tourney can do it....but man its a grind.

Yep. Most "rookies" on the tour spent years on the nationwide tour. Learning the grind...travel and tourny conditions etc.. It is very hard to start on the PGA tour year 1 out of college and keep a card. Look at Johnny Vegas...Natonwide guy. I haven't looked at it...but how many tour pros are in year 1 out of college?

This. And nothing wrong with that. its a place to play. He will have a job. Beats the hel out of the hooters tour or So Cal tour. Not that there is a huge difference in any 1 pga player vs. nationwide player...the field talent is vastly different IMO. Any 1 player on tour can win a tourney any given week....but put someone ranked 170-200 on the tour in the Nationwide and they are probably a top 50 guy consistently.

2 out of 3 golfers on the PGA tour got their start on the Nationwide tour....at least that's what that commercial on golf channel always says....haha

no idea how many pga guys are straight out of college....can't be but a couple

IDK how the kid meant it, but there is no way the top 20 golfers in college matched up with the top 20 golfers on the PGA would even come close if they played a match.

I would disagree to an extent...like someone said earlier, they may win 1/10 and come relatively close the rest, but the pro would win those other 9 times and comfortably.

But I do agree that the top 20 pros could consistently beat the top 20 NCAA players.

There is a big difference between getting amped for one event

And playing week in week out on tour

This is why so many struggle and take so long to graduate from Nationwide and make the top 125 to keep their cards

Uihlein and Cantlay are the only 2 amateurs to show they can compete on the PGA tour on a regular basis and make cuts

Plenty LSU fans in here calling him out.

This. Wasn't Phil the last amateur to win a PGA event? The top college guys certainly have the game to compete on any given week, but so do hundreds of guys grinding it on the lower tours.

No doubt, but it seems the ones defending him are doing so based on their fandom alone. If the UGA golfer that won had made the comments, this thread would be going much differently.

The truth is spoken

Kid isn't going to get a war reception on Tour or Nationwide

And that can actually be a big deal
