Also, since 1990, 8 tracks from the North/West have been added compared to only 2 from the South. NASCAR also eliminated Rockingham and its 2 races, took a date from Darlington, and eliminated North Wilkesboro.

True. But the race Kevin Ward Jr. and Tony Stewart were involved in that night was not a NASCAR event.

historically.
not anymore.

edit: ratings show I am partly wrong. TV ratings are biggest in the South.

Ironic that almost none of the top drivers are from the South.

My God, I just watched The Herd for 15 minutes and remembered just how obnoxious Colin is. If MSNBC needs a sports show host, I found their guy. He's like Keith Olbermann if Keith lost half of his brain cells.

Colin Cowherd should be stricken from the internet. I will vote down every thread that mentions his name.

Obviously there are fans all over the country and there are more newer tracks popping up in the north and the west. It is still a predominately southern sport. The ratings are the highest in the south. Like someone else said earlier, just because there are hockey fans and hockey teams in the south, doesn't make hockey a southern sport.

This is dumb though an taking away from what cowherd was saying. He was talking more about the "southern culture" and "rednecks" that are nascar and racing fans. Which is just wrong and ignorant to throw out strereotypes like he always does.

Racing is also huge in the Midwest.

But the point is that Colin is in no position to act like he knows about southern culture.

I just searched Nascar ratings by region or market.

What I found was not a full blown scientific study, but from select races it was clear that 8 of the top 10 markets are in the south each week.

I guess college football is "southern culture" also. Seven of the 10 teams in viewership are from the SEC and 10 of the top 15 are from the South.

Cowherd is throwing shite against a wall about a sport he likely knows nothing about. He does this all the time. He's easily the worst guy at ESPN. Demands credit when he's right and refuses to acknowledge when he's wrong.

Damn! I hate it when I am forced to agree with a Bama fan.

Not the thread but the subject.

College football is most definitely a a mostly southern thing in comparison to the NFL

True.

And many of the drivers if not a majority.

Johnson, Bowyer, Busch, Busch, Edwards, Kenseth, Gordon, Logano, Keslowski, Stewart, Harvick, Biffle, are all from the North or the West

Damn that's suprising, that's like all the big names I recognize. I admittedly don't follow NASCAR, is Dale Jr. the only big name driver from the South?

Of the 16 drivers in the Chase currently, only Junebug, Denny Hamlin, and Aric Almirola are from the South. I would guess that the majority are from the Midwest/West.

Cowherd is brilliant and he thinks outside the box but always has factual bases to support . He also picked Tennessee to beat Bama this year and I believe he is correct about that as well.
