Because the question that was asked was about him not about the team. He did what most people do in a conversation answer the question.

I think it's because there's still this idea that coaches and players need to "be humble" to be successful and he has never been that.
A lot of people think that humble people are supposed to win, arrogant people are supposed to lose. When it doesn't happen like that it drives people up the wall.
