How can these Tigers accept mediocrity (at best) like they do? With their fan base, why does sustained success elude them?

replace Clemson with South Carolina and you can ask the same question

Their loss to Maryland just got me thinking how consistently putting 82,000 fans in a stadium should be able to secure some type of success. Yet they seem to suck.

IMO it's coaching. They've never been able to constantly hang around the top 5 that I can think of but it always seems like they should have enough talent.

I thought about that, but SC playing in the SEC limits them. The ACC should be wide open for a team like Clemson, yet they never seem to live up to expectations (or down right blow).

well they do have a national title to their name, which is more than some SEC programs can claim...

Coaching....Just like LSU in the 90's (but with more recruiting competition).

I have always contributed it at least a little to the fact that south Carolina, north Carolina Virginia etc don't have the recruiting pool talent base that the Georgia, Florida, lsu, etc pool has...they don't have high profile coaches and recruiterS to go get the guys from other schools bases and they also don't win enough. I guess it's a double edged sword in a sense...can't get the players without winning and can't win without getting the players.

That being said, I have no knowledge of the facilities, campus lives of these schools
