Make it 2 for Rizzo tonight. The 2nd was a no doubter to straight away center. Jackson was trying to blow another one, so his arse got yanked.

Too much. But he pitched pretty well in all honesty.

C'mon Sweeney. Anything but that.

Jesus. What happened. Feels like we got unlucky in that one. Oh well. Race to picking ahead of the Astros.

Kris Bryant has 33 HR's this season. It just makes me laugh, really.

Javi Baez hit his 16th HR and had 6 hits over the weekend and only K'd once. Of course, I read this elsewhere, but over his last 16 games he's only K'd 15 times. Over 70 PA's--that's a K rate of 21.4% by my math. He's hit .290/.343/.629/.972 with 5 HR and 6 2B so far in July.

Tseng gave up only a hit in 6 IP.

Addison Russell hit two HR's on the weekend, one of which was a grand slam.

Albert Almora had a 7 hit weekend; 3 of those were doubles. So far in July, Almora's hitting .377/.403/.638/1.040 with 3 HR, 5 2B and 2 3B; 10 K and 0 BB over those 72 PA's. His BaBIP is astronomical (I think) at .411.

And Anthony Rizzo has 23 HR's on the year, good for a tie for first in the NL with some schmuck named Giancarlo Stanton.

so realistically what are we looking at for call-ups through this year, and who would they be replacing in Chicago?

Everybody keeps saying imagine the Baez/Bryant duo, but damn, a Rizzo/Bryant duo from both sides of the plate is going to be nuts

The only call up you might see this year would be baez. It'd be in September after rosters expand so no need for a corresponding move.

For position players. You're already seeing the pitchers coming up.

Hopefully we can strong arm Baez into an extension Astros style and go ahead and start his MLB career.

Maybe Baez, maybe Soler.

I think if there isn't a minor league team in the playoffs (which i find unlikely) that we'll see him, because the guy needs AB's.

Assuming...wait for it...that he's not hurt.

Ho hum minor league reports from last night. Soler was 2 for 3 with no walks and no K's.

Kris Bryant and Javi Baez both finished 1 for 4; each hit a single.

Dan Straily needs to pick it up a bit; he went 6 IP, K'd 7 but gave up 2 BB and 2 HR while allowing 4 runs.

Billy McKinney K'd and doubled.

Watch Smokie's 3B Christian Villanueva play D.

I listened to Straily's first couple of innings on radio last night. He got hit pretty hard. His final line looks like he must have settled down since he had the 4 ERs in 1st 2 IP.

Talk about burring the lead. I happened to be on twitter last night when Soler was lifted from the game. The cubs blogosphere almost imploded.
