The plan is coming together nicely.By the time our best prospects hit, we will have a stadium and more importantly player amenities that is much more modern if not comparable with the league average.
The additional revenue from advertising will allow an increase in payroll, then once we sign a new TV contract we'll be able to spend like the large market team we are, all while having a first rate minor league system.
People complain about the last three years, but the sacrifices made during this time will ppay off with a Cubs team that will competefor championships for the foreseeable future.
I cant believe im saying this as a life long Cubs fan, but we will be perennial contenders within two years.
If we can lock up our homegrown talent and take good shots in free agency, theres no reason the Cubs cant have a shot a multiple championships over the next 10-15 years.

Kris Bryant with another HR tonight for Iowa.

Alcantara will remain with the Cubs up until the All Star Break, then will head to the AAA All Star game and be optioned back to Iowa with Hendricks possibly being recalled at the same time since the Cubs won't need Hendricks until then. I love roster roulette.

why would they decide that in advance. What if the kid goes 13-16 this weekend?
Before, Alcantara was only supposed to be up for the two days Barney was away from the team, so basically Alcantara earned the extra days. He'll be sent down, someone will get traded, and he'll be back up in no time.
ETA: Bryant probably won't be up this year. However, if Jorge Soler stays healthy at AA this season, he could find AB's on the MLB team in September simply because he needs them and he's already on the 40 man roster AND isn't subject to the team control/super two rules like Bryant.

Cubs writers are saying they may not be able to send him down if he's playing well or the MLBPA will file a grievance. They may not even want to go there and just leave him up.

Isn't it about time to bring some of them up though. You can't bring up 6 rookies at once and compete right then. And some will flame out. Cubs won't get a thing for Barney , but I'd pick him up and see if he can play SS.
The team in bad shape is the Rangers...I know they've had injuries, but they are also replete with some nasty contracts.

The snag in calling up Bryant and Baez right now is the classic super two service time thing. The Cubs would likely wait to call them up in May of next season, but they could also call them up in September and offset that time accrued next season, likely putting them in Chicago full time around the middle of June(ish) all while maintaining max control over their contracts and arbitration years.

They are all about getting players money. It's more about Alcantara than Barney. If he shows worthy of being in the MLB, then they will fight it if he's sent down and the Cubs use the AAA ASG as an excuse when everyone knows the issue is service time

The issue isn't service time. This was just simply giving Alcantara an opportunity to show up in MLB while Barney was on paternity leave. The plan the whole time was to send him down as soon as Barney returned.

I saw Bryant's HR live since the game was on CST last night. I can't wait to see that guy in MLB.
