With Spring Training around the corner, are the Cubs really content on not doing much of anything this offseason?

they have made a few marginal moves, and i know the Bryant grievance/service time situation has slowed this down. but damn, is Theo really this hamstrung by Ricketts? Theo doesnt actually believe this team , which is more or less the same team as last year, will have any real success this year, does he?

No real option at 2nd base (maybe Hoerner?), Almora/Happ in CF ( ), and who the hell is the 5th starter at this point?

Are they better than the Cards, Brewers, or even Reds this year?

Ricketts is being cheap as frick even though he quadrupled his initial investment. I'm glad he got booed at Cubs Con.

At this point, I'd be fine with running it back and hoping a healthy team plus Hoerner/Alzolay can make a run. I hate the idea of trading Bryant and/or Contreras just to save money and get worse.

are there any actual good reasons for Ricketts' unwillingness to spend?

i agree that health will be the biggest key to success this year. but not doing anything to fix literally anything from last year is a little concerning. also, wtf is the bullpen at this point?

willy stays, but once KB's grievance is denied, it wouldnt shock me if Theo moves him for pitching.

The only rumors spinning are that they're trying to bring in Nolan Aranado but I don't see that happening at all.

Its going to be like 2019, they say "these are the guys we want" and then we go in and lose a ton of games we shouldn't

what is crazy is all the new revenue streams they have and they are not doing anything with it.

They say that STH renewals are high, but when I got my annual preview to see open seats, it is a lot more than years past. I would assume the same in some of the other areas.

Stop spending time to have f@cking yoga in the park, and worry about the team.

I think there's a repeater tax so the price goes up.

Apparently even teams like the Marlins are making minor moves. Cubs aren't doing shite. I hope it means Alzolay will take the 5th spot and Hoerner plays 2B, because they look like better options than the trash out on the market.

Maybe Happ can regain his form from a few years ago. Selling off anyone is dumb at this point because it only makes you worse.

It can be said that they have certainly had a better off season than the Astros.

I think we all saw this coming from a mile away. It's been the same script the last 2 offseasons :
1) talk a big game game about how the result of the season was unacceptable and changes needed to be made,

2) cry poor and make no changes.

I honestly have no idea who's going to come out of the pen. We've lost 2 of the more reliable guys from last year in kintzler and cishek and that bullpen had a hell of a time holding leads.

lol true. beyond all the sign stealing shite, they lost 2 significant pieces to their success in Cole and Harris and have essentially signed no one of value.

There was a pretty good article a few days ago about how Ricketts is basically telling us "I gave you a win in 2016, that should be enough for you. However, keep supporting us."

His mistake is that folks have got used to winning...so when they start losing, folks who used to go to watch the lovable losers and sit in the bleachers will not like they used to in the past.

Plus throw in all the new structures, restaurants, etc and it has turned off a lot of folks in Wrigley. (Yes, Murphys, Corner, Yakzies, etc are still there, but the neighborhood vibe is under attack)

hes become such a slave to the money. the lack of improvements is just alarming considering the window seems to be closing quicker than anyone expected.

honestly not sure if they are any better than, best case scenario, 3rd place in the division right now

I had thought our chances of signing Nick were slim to none anyway? But of course he goes and signs in the division

There's no reason for Ricketts to be cheap. Even with a repeater tax, it's not like they'll be hurting for money.

Tyler Chatwood as the number five starter is asking for trouble. Lester and Q have been trending down, so that means you're hoping Yu and Hendricks can really carry the rotation.

Not making any moves this offseason was inexcusable for a team that hasn't taken the steps forward that were expected after 2016. I do still think there is a lot of talent in KB (if he's still with them when the season starts), Javy, Rizz, and Willson. JHey and Schwarbs are both solid, but I don't think they'll hit All Star level. Maybe Souza bounces back and gives them a CF that can hit, but I'm not betting on that. Seems like this season is going to be disappointing. I hope I'm wrong.

felt like we just starred at each other to see who would blink first. Meanwhile the reds took advantage.

I think if either one of us spent money the other would have too
