In the am tourneys I play someone else in the group takes your official score. You keep up with yours at the bottom of the card of the guy you're keeping score for. Call it out every hole, go over each hole at the turn and after 18. Then sign it. Once signed, you have to keep the score you signed for. I got screwed last year as I called out my score hole by hole and the guy said it was right. I signed and it was 2 shots higher. Sad part was he wasn't even in my flight!

I can recite that damn book backwards and forwards
and the tension you speak of is the person who got caught, just being mad.
If you get pissed at someone who calls a penalty on you, than that person should be equally pissed at you. You are supposed to call penalties on yourself, and if you don't than you don't belong on a course in tournament play.

I had a problem last tourney. Wind blowing 25-30 mph all day. On 16 I get over my ball and the wind blows it. I back off and tell the group my ball moved. I tell them I never grounded my putter. They say they didn't see it move. I tell them it did, but question if its a penalty since I never grounded. 2 say they don't know. One swears up and down it is. We argue for 5 minutes until the group behind us is ready for approach. I say frick it, give me a triple and pick up. (Triple is worst you can get). After the round we go to tourney director and there's a big debate with 10 guys. Conclusion is no foul due to rule change. But...triple stays. Finish 6th...fell 2 spots. My own fault for getting pissed off and telling guy to frick off.

Who's playing in the urec open tomorrow?

no penalty and you replace the ball as long as you haven't grounded the putter
If you have addressed the ball but are absolutely sure you did not cause movement, no penalty and play ball from new position

Only golf tournament trophy I have is a last place plaque from a four man scramble. My dad paid for my tournament fee as a single. There were no other singles. I was by myself. Some guy jumped on with me because he felt bad. We lost. Miserably.
I put it in the bathroom at my Tuscaloosa condo.

You didn't say anything at all? Not even just to him afterwards? I would have at least had to tell him, "look, douche, I saw what you did." Even if you didn't want to make a big deal about it to the officials.

I play in a glow-ball tournament (4-man scramble) every year at my course. Front nine is played before dark, back nine in the dark w/ glow balls. There are some teams that report LOWER scores in the dark. NO fricking way!!

After we play the front nine (before dark), we have a huge meal and drinks in the clubhouse and wait for it to get dark. The back nine is alot of fun, but you have to watch out with all the drunks hitting glowing missiles all over the place.

That's why I just drink as many beers as possible and don't give a frick in scrambles. Who cares about winning a fricking charity scramble? I'm as competitive as anybody I know but c'mon, cheating in a golf scramble? There's a special place in sports hell for those people

That's how I feel. And like anything else with golf, you know the truth.
You can't lie to yourself.

Most real Golfers don't cheat,we've played in single Tournaments many times and being labeled a cheater is the last thing one wants. If myself and some of my friends play in these 4 man matches we just have fun and laugh at the cheaters. It's something to see what grown men will do for a little perceived glory.

I had a drive hit the cart path on first impact and launch another 30 yards up and into the fairway. Won the long drive because of it. Is that wrong? We discussed it with another group and they said it was good

That's fair game IMO.
My shots have been heat seeking the cart path lately. Sometimes good, most times bad.

gentlemans game
I try not to play in tournaments where I dont know a lot of the people in it. Some people just get off on cheating. That takes the fun out of it
