Eh, we're in a division with the cardinals. But when they do it it's 'the cardinal way.' I'm not advocating for it, but I'm also not going to let it be said that cogs is dirty when it's 'hard baseball' down the road.

Also, Kang should've jumped. Wouldn't have been able to turn 2, but that was kind of the point.

If both teams are under .500 and playing september ball, I might be inclined to take exception to it, but this is basically playoff baseball right now. And if i see cogs not try to break up a double play, i'd be pissed.

That's Keith Law though for the most part. He takes things to the next level. I don't care how many nice notes he sends afterwards though. That should be done after ending someone's season. I'm mainly just saying that it looks real bad IMO. If he doesn't want to keep sending notes to guys after games, he should adjust how he slides into second base.

Question. How many years apart are those two photos?

This was from 2009

quote:

On May 22, Iwamura was injured while attempting to turn a double play against the Florida Marlins. After being slid into by Marlins infielder Chris Coghlan, Iwamura fell to the ground and eventually had to be carted off the field. Initial reports suggested this was a serious injury, and the following day it was announced that Iwamura suffered a torn ACL that would require surgery, "involvement" on the MCL, in addition to torn ligaments in his ankle, causing him to miss the remainder of the season. Iwamura undwerwent surgery one month later on June 22 to repair the injury, and it was discovered that the ACL was only partially torn, meaning that he did not require reconstructive surgery. Instead, an arthroscopic surgery was performed, and a report on the successful surgery stated that he could return to action in 6–8 weeks.

So 6 years apart. That's not a pattern, nor a concern. Especially this one. It's a hard slide no doubt and if a rule change cones from it, great. But this is playoff baseball. Kang to his credit hung in there to try to get the out. Cogs to his credit tried to break up the double play. Nothing more.

I like seeing good players actually playing. I realize this has been done for years. That doesn't mean that it should continue. I don't want guys throwing at batter's heads and I don't want guys trying to take out another guys knees at 2nd. It's unnecessary.

He could be playing. No one said he couldn't get out of the way. Are players not supposed to try to break up double plays? I like seeing players play hard.

Sounds like wgat you want is a rule change like they did for blocking the plate.

I'm done. It was obviously a dirty play because he went straight into his knee before he even hit the dirt on his slide. I know it's your team though so you won't see it that way.

This was the first time he did this vs Iwamura. It was definitely intentional.

Intentional to break up the play, but not to hurt someone. What are you trying to say he is intentionally doing in these two very isolated cases?

You're done. But leaving with "it's obviously a dirty play" then insinuate I can't be rational or this isn't debatable because I'm a cubs fan. Come on. Don't be like that.

That was 6 years ago. So he's just been lying in wait for 6 years to mercelissly pounce again?

Sliding to take out a double play isn't dirty. He didn't go cleats up or anything. Its a hard slide that happens nearly every game. Nothing dirty about it.

This. Stick to ranking prospects. Nobody cares about anything else he does.

That's rough but that's just a freak injury. Even the Pirates agreed that it was just a hard baseball play.
