Going for two is the smart play, it lets you know as early as possible what you have to do. Two scores with 4 minutes left is possible, 2 scores with 10 seconds left is not.

Assuming you get the 2-pt, it doesn't matter if you get it now, or on the 2nd TD.
Assuming you fail it, you want to know with 4 minutes left in the game, rather than 1 minute left.

Statistically its absolutely the right call, the Chargers increased their chances of winning by 8% by going for it there as opposed to after the second TD.
