You need to be more specific.
What current rankings?
What current rankings?

There is absolutely zero reason for Cincinnati to be ranked 5 spots above Navy. They both played extremely similar schedules and both ended up 10-2 with loses to Memphis and a top 15 team. The only difference is that Navy has a top 25 win on their schedule and has blown out multiple opponents while Cincinnati has just barely eked by against every semi-decent team they’ve played.
The fact that Cincinnati is ranked so much higher than Navy is abundantly clear evidence that the committee is doing something funky. It’s not crazy to suggest that they are artificially pumping up OSU’s opponents to justify keeping them at 1. I believe in Occam’s Razor, and that is honestly the simplest explanation that makes sense to me.

Every season at least 3 of the 4 playoff teams won their conference. 2016 (Ohio State) and 2017 (Alabama) were the only teams that didn't and still made the playoff.
If Utah wins the PAC 12, Baylor wins the Big 12 and any combination of Georgia beating LSU and Virginia beating Clemson happens, it puts the committee in a bad position.
Do they put the best teams in or the best CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS in?

So you agree they have Navy too low in the CFP rankings.

It was more about the Cincinnati ranking. But looking at the BCS, yes.
I'm on record saying we use the BCS and go with it.
I'd honestly rather pick 10 computers and roll with those.

Look at Cincinnati’s schedule. Now look at Navy’s schedule. Pay particular attention to their common opponents; one of the stated criteria for the playoff committee. Now make an argument for Cincinnati being ranked 5 spots higher for Navy.
Hint: you can’t. Cincinnati beat USF, ECU, and Tulsa by a combined 17 points. Navy beat those 3 teams by a combined 93. Hiding behind flawed rankings isn’t going to change that. If you/the committee have watched either of those teams play this year, it’s crystal clear who the better team is.

3 teams
It's a good thing they both played more than three teams.
The transitive property is always silly. Always.

Considering Ohio State would still have nearly identical wins as LSU if they took Cincinnati out, but with larger margins, no.
Not a team on OSUs schedule that beats Alabama with Tua. If you honestly think there is you have went full Ohio and can’t take off your red and grey glasses.

Wisconsin at 8, Michigan at 14, and Cincy at 20, all VEEEEEEEEEEEEEY highly overanked. If you can't see the bias by the NCAA committee over this, then you're fricking retarded. I can't help you.

The transitive property is always silly. Always
B. My argument is literally one of the four criteria the college football playoff committee says they use to rank comparable teams; results against common opponents.
quote:I highlighted those 3 because the other 3 common opponents are more or less a wash. Cincy’s net point differential against Memphis, Connecticut, and Houston was +50. Navy’s differential against those 3 was +49.
It's a good thing they both played more than three teams.
Those are the 6 common opponents the two teams share. Results against Memphis, UConn and Houston are basically a wash. But results against USF, Tulsa, and ECU could not be more clear.
In all, of the 6 common opponents both teams played, Cincy did not beat any of them by more than Navy did. The only slight mark in their favor is that they lost to Memphis by 10 while Navy lost by 12.
Honest question: how many american conference games have you watched this year?
I’m a UH fans, so I follow the conference closely. Cincy has been EXTREMELY fortunate to weasel their way to multiple wins they did not deserve. They really are not a particularly good team, and the fact that they are ranked at all is extremely surprising to me. What have you seen during the games you’ve watched that indicates that they are a top 25 team?

That’s a travesty.
Minnesota fell dramatically losing to Wisconsin.
They didn't just lose though. They got absolutely destroyed at home.

So is the rest of their schedules that you conveniently ignored.

There are also teams that aren't common opponents. Do you suppose the committee just ignores those results as you've done?

What the hell are you talking about? I’m not at all ignoring the rest of their schedule; literally one of the first things I noted in my comparison of the two is that Navy has a top 25 win on their schedule while Cincy has nothing close. Navy’s best win is hands down better than Cincy’s best win.

Meanwhile, I’ve asked you to make an argument for Cincinnati being the better team. You’ve made none. All you’ve done is tried (unsuccessfully) to tear down my arguments without offering up any of your own. Now it’s your turn. I’ve made my case for Navy, you make your case for Cincy.

Sigh...
For the third time, when we look at non-common opponents, Navy has the better win on their resume. Whether you are looking at common opponents or non-common opponents, Navy has been more impressive.
