Isn't he out of bounds b/c he's touching a player who is out of bounds when he gains control?
I don't think that can apply if there wasn't possession yet. If so, then a DB could just step out of bounds, make a play on the ball, and have the play dead if he touches it.

I mean I assumed the rule is somewhat the same as w/a fumble recovery? Is it not?

Even a fumble recovery isn’t that way. It doesn’t matter if you are touching a player who is out of bounds. The person touching the ball has to be out of bounds.

That's what it looked like to me.
The more I think of it I'm surprised they didn't call it that way.

I disagree on this. If you're OOB or were recently OOB, and you touch the ball, it's dead.
ETA: On a fumble

A TD by OSU in this drive might break PSU.

No. If a player who is out of bounds touches you when you are touching the ball and you haven't secured the fumble the play is dead and the team that fumbled keeps the ball.

Oh no Ohio State may have figured out to just run da bawl

It’s so nice watching a really good 220lb rub hit a big hole with authority. LSU needs to make adjustments to their run blocking scheme, but I do miss having stud rbs.
