NCST baseball has 4 CWS trips and only 3 since 1968, UNC has 12 with 8 since 2006 alone...UNC has a park that holds 5K with recent renovations while NCST holds 3K. Not very close in baseball tbh despite NCST having some recent success, they both made their last CWS appearances together in 2024.

NC State football has been far more consistent than UNC football and actually has a fan base that cares. UNC fans do not care about football.
UNC football will never have the potential as NC State football for one reason. UNC football will always play second fiddle to UNC basketball. Just like with UK.
Basketball, no debate there, UNC, but with Wade NC State could become a significantly bigger player in future years.
With NC State, you never have to worry about them leaving. Heck you could probably offer NC State and VT 50% of the revenue that the other SEC schools are getting and they would jump after it. With UNC, the SEC will always be the bridesmaid. If the Big Ten comes calling, UNC leaves the SEC for the Big Ten in a second. What does that do to the perception of the SEC?
With NC State and VT, you get your representation in North Carolina and Virginia. NC State and VT have the largest college football fan bases in their respective states. And you get two SEC like fan bases that will instantly fit in with the rest of the league.
With UNC and UVA, you get two more teams like Texas. Schools with massive egos, fan bases with holier than thou attitudes who think they are above the SEC. Two schools that simply will never be a great fit for the SEC and two schools that will leave the SEC for the Big Ten in a second if they are ever offered.
Get NC State and VT in there, let them excel more in football and potentially match their in state rival in basketball.
The SEC will get far more from NC State and VT than they ever will from UNC or UVA.

Of course history matters, absurd thing to say. 8 CWS trips since 2006 to 2. 12 all time to 4. Not close. Much better baseball fans and with better facilities as a result. Shame on you.

And yet which one fills up their football stadium for games? And which one lets teams like Clemson take over half their stadium? And yeah, this comes from someone who has lived in North Carolina. Someone who still has many friends in North Carolina. Need I remind you there are more Clemson fans than UNC fans in the UNC stadium currently.
UNC has the higher profile, no debate there, but far more in state kids go to NC State. NC State has the overall bigger fan base in NC than UNC.

I'm not one to typically play the "what if" game, but that is one of the few exceptions. The COVID rules were absolutely pathetic. The CWS should have been pushed back rather than make NC State forfeit.
As far as I'm concerned, NC State is the 2021 CWS Champions.
That means for college baseball:
NC State - 1
UNC - 0
NC State is the best college baseball program in North Carolina currently. So that means NC State is better in baseball, it's a push in football and UNC is better in basketball (though not women's, where NC State dominates).

Guarantee you if the SEC takes UVA and UNC, the SEC will be embarrassed within 10 years when both UVA and UNC bolt for the Big Ten. Is that really what you want?
Newsflash, UNC and UVA don't even want to be in the SEC. Would you not rather have two programs that genuinely want to be in the SEC?
