Just straight massacring the sport at this point.

Need to take the pollsters out of it. They were the problem in every system we had.

I've stopped caring about college sports
I have completely checked out

The play-in games seem dumb if you're going to have 3 at-large spots. You'll have teams lose those games but make the playoff anyway.
Just make all the spots AQ and have the last spot in each conference a play-in game. Taking the place of the championship games.

Ridiculous but money is money Conf Championships likely will eventually go away though
They will only go away when they can be replaced by the 3v6 and 4v5 play in games. No way they are giving up the TV money conference title games generate.

How will Notre dame get in then?

For decades, we determined a conference champion without a championship game...with balanced scheduling, we could do that again...would love to see the conference championship game replaced with those two play-in games...one in Atlanta and one somewhere else...would be so much more interesting.

The playin games would be ignorant on all levels. Most years, the SEC will probably get 5 or 6 teams in.

Gross. 4 auto bids plus 3 at large and STILL have play in games?
Stop the madness. If you finish lower than 4th and can’t get an at large spot, you don’t deserve to play for a championship.

BCS> 16 team > 12 team > 4 team
what a horrendous take.
If after 12 games plus a conference championship weekend you are only ranked like 13th, what in the absolute frick makes you think you deserve to be called "national champion"? There have RARELY been more than 4 teams after 13 games that could legit make a case for themselves. We damn sure didn't need to quadruple it.

The last 3 at large would be a debate between ND, #5 and #6 for both the SEC and B1G, #3 for the ACC and Big XII, and the next highest rated G5. That’s 8 teams vying for 3 spots.
The play in games would absolutely be worth it.

It's all just about money. Longer season, sold out stadiums at $500+ for tickets and now football into March!

Just what you, the average fan wants right? Right?

16 teams with 2 play in games? So effectively 18 teams?
The regular season is meaningless.
This is completely on purpose to.They want "name brand" teams to still make the playoffs even if they stumble to 9-3 or 8-4.

frick Notre Dame. Make em join the ACC.
That won't happen though, so just give the G6 a second spot and include Notre Dame in that group.
5-5-2-2-2
No matter the format, Notre Dame is going to be in a 16 team playoff pretty much every year with the schedule they play.

Yep
$1000 airfare
$600 hotel
$1000 for 2 tickets
$8.5M for food and drinks
sounds like a hell of a deal for 3 hours of football.

I think it's more about TV revenue than filling the stadiums. They got lucky because Texas was at Jerryworld, but I don't know why anyone would travel to the semis. I suppose the quarters will still do OK on NYE/NYD.

This really smart guy wrote a blog article in 2006 about playoffs in college and rejecting the BCS, that basically described this exact process.

What has the ACC or B12 done to deserve 2 auto bids?
Autobids for anyone outside of a conference champ is dumb. And a 16 team playoff is even dumber. We’re going to be arguing about what 8-4 team is most deserving after going 4-4 in conference play and maybe having 1 win over a top 25 opponent all season
