I do not understand the purpose for these games. Maybe I'm biased, but I feel as though the college atmosphere beats a neutral site game. The fact that LSU is playing BYU in Houston, instead of either in Baton Rouge or Provo bothers me. I wish these neutral site week 1 games would go away.

It must make more sense financially for a school as I guess you really get no revenue out of the home and home away game.

Big names playing each other (not necessarily LSU vs. BYU, but in general) without either committing to a home and home.

Exposure for both programs on a bigger stage, again, without committing to a home and home.

Exposure to potential recruits in highly populated areas like Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, etc.

I guess it's hard to sell Death Valley as a tough place to play when the toughest non-conference game is Troy and Syracuse. I guess the days of seeing an 07 Va Tech come to Tiger Stadium are over.

Outside of historic rivalry games, don't mind them periodically. It's not something we do often but am looking forward to the Michigan game in Dallas. Some schools do it every year OOC, as a fan that would really bother me.

Money is, of course, a big one. In addition, teams can have seven scheduled home games, though one of those games will, likely, be a shite team. Bigger programs can afford to do this on a more consistent basis.

It seems our idiot AD, Joe Alleva, will gladly trade away a home-and-home with a big program for neutral sites. LSU had a home-and-home scheduled with Oklahoma for 2019. My guess is that will be changed to a neutral site game.

We have a home/home with Texas coming up in 2019/2020, plus UCLA and Arizona State after that.

In general though, both teams will probably come out ahead financially playing a single neutral site game and then a rent-a-win home game.

I hope Alleva doesn't trade that away. Wouldn't be surprised though.

It's the easiest way to get big name teams together because they don't have to agree to a home and home.

They love to mention this point, but I'm not sure how effective this truly is.

At the start of that game, it was one of the loudest games I've been to. The student section was nuts. Looking back though, I wish I'd have gone to more games as a student.

WVU vs VT in DC is an absolute brilliant idea

They're fun?

I enjoyed TAMU/Arizona State in Houston a couple years back.

1. These games generate a lot of money for each school. It's almost like de facto bowl game with corporate sponsors.

2. The games are played on a neutral site, so the worry about home field advantage is diminished

3. (This ties into #1) The school's get to sell tickets to the game as if it is home game, but they don't incur the huge expense of putting on a home game.

I would MUCH rather big home and home series, but there is far too much money to be made in participating in the neutral site games.

Anyone want to do a revenue/cost comparison on what two neutral site games vs a home and home could turn out? Use some recent big matchups.
