ok, this may be a stupid question, but how does he 'recruit' players? Don't they have to live in the district to play there? Does he somehow get around the residential district rules or what?

It is easy, you know somebody in the real estate business that can give them a good deal on an apt for a year and that is how. Not too difficult

I knew Sid back in the days of our high-school youth when Redemptorist was a basketball powerhouse and Sid's goal was to get that program back to the way it was in the late 70's-early 80's. As far as his success at Central, if a kid has confidence in his coach, he will play up to that level. Is he "recruiting", I can't say, but people will always say that a winning program is cheating. I wish him all the luck in the world, because he will need some of it on Friday night against Desty.

rent house or apartment + utility bill with new address = instant eligibility

and no tuition to pay for

but hats off to Sid, he gets kids to join the team and play and he keeps them active which is a good thing

"rent house or apartment + utility bill with new address = instant eligibility "

too bad the lhsaa can rule a kid ineligible up to a full year after the season ends if they agree he only moved for "athletic purposes".
Recruiting is not illegal. there are illegal ways of doing it. so many calls go into the lhsaa about sid recruiting, he has investigations going on yearly. there are perfectly legal ways of getting good kids into your program and all schools can do it.

as for recruiting at central, he is fortunate many of the kids already there were allowed to stay through graduation, and although they live in other attendance zones, were ruled eligible to finish school at central. but look at the freshman and jr hi teams... not so hot. winning with "just central kids" is not as easy as people think

He definitely should get the credit for the football state title but Brian Hargroder, the coach at Live Oak now should get the credit for the basketball title because he was the one that really coached them kids. Sid just got them there.

Same goes for football. He gets'em there, the other coaches coach. It's funny how he talks about "this recruiting class" over "last year's recruits", etc.

But anyone who usually meets Sid knows he's a great guy and can easily see how someone would want to play for him.

this central football "turnaround" reminds me of the year that parkview basketball went from like 1-28 to winning the state championship ...

For a couple of years at that, but we all know how that recruiting pipeline story of Don Green ended.

I graduated last year from Central and I've known most of the kids on the team for years. Say what you want about this team being ALL recruits but it just isn't true.

With that said, I can't wait to make to the trip to Destrehan friday!

Go CENTRAL Wildcats

Wonder why the people of Central won't pass any taxes/bond issue in helping out their own schools like Zachary has? Baker is run by idiots and the product sitting in those desks are different. Before Zachary went independent the HS at least was excellent when it came to education. The main difference now is that Zachary has loads of money to spend...and they're spending it too.

True. Central Middle (and Central High) benefited for years with the M-and M transfer rule. Those outside athletes (aka black kids)aren't coming to the Middle school like they use too.

He is "molder" of young men, has them active in the community, teaches them morals and what it means to be good citizens. I can't say enough about what he is doing at Central beyond football...........

they are still scattered out via the Catholic league and private schools, but as soon as Sid can build those schools to be feeders to the HS, teaching the same philosophy, it will improve...........its a process and will take some time.
