What/How did "catching the Catholic League" mean?

from what I can gather, someone reported a Catholic League School for having extra practices or "OTAs". LHSAA had them reduce the number of spring practice dates. By the way I read the story from NOLA.com, it was an offsite or after hours practice.

However, the Byrd situation is in direct violation of a rule governing the school day.

Good for Byrd.

I'm curious to see what their appeal was based on because the rule was cut and dry.

bullshite is what it is. A few years ago we had to forfeit our entire baseball season because we had two players who had enough credits to graduate leave school half a day to go to work. We had a new guidance counselor schedule the kids and she didn't realize athletes had to be at school all day.

It sucks but rules were rules we didn't follow them, but Byrd doesn't follow the rules, their athletes instead of going to work like our kids did sit at school and practice/prepare for the sports for two class periods and only get a slap on the wrist.

LHSAA needs to be more consistent with it's rulings.

Glad kids will get to settle it on the field. Still don't understand why we even have rules if they're not going to be enforced. I would have liked to see a ruling like Parkway's. You can play, but can't have a home playoff game this year. More effective than a lousy thousand dollar fine which is a JOKE.

Clhstrojans, I agree with you. That's why I said th rule was cut and dry. I congratulated Byrd for winning the appeal. However I would like to know what the appeal was based on because I don't see any grey area the way the rule was written.

This is not totally true. Athletes do not have to be at school all day. As long as you are on graduation rate, if you only need 4 classes thats all you have to take. You just fill other class spots as "work study" hours

I'm glad the kids were not punished because the adults screwed up. Change the language of the rule to minutes per day..not classes.

What about the team that will now be left out of the playoffs? Unlikely they come to WM and win, but still.

Just playing Devil's advocate.

The principal is s former coach. I don't buy they didn't know the rule. They tried to get around a rule, got caught, and the screamed "that's not fair". The new ruling Is a joke as now they are not punished for breaking the rule. And Byrd laughs at a 1k fine. They make 5 times that on Friday night.

The best teams should be in the playoffs.

I just know how it sucks when kids are punished for things they had no control of...

Congrats Byrd.
