The Carolina @Panthers are eying former #Saints coach Sean Payton, via @fos
Panthers are willing to wait a year while Payton explores TV according to sources.
Payton currently has TV offers from Amazon and Fox Sports.

That sure sounds like a vote of confidence for Rhule .
I hope David Tepper owns that team forever. He seems more meddlesome than even Jerry Jones used to be.

Well he's under contract next year too, which means it would have to be a trade, and the Saints would have to be willing to deal with a division rival. The cost would be much higher for them than other teams.

So what would be the first year Payton could be hired and the Saints NOT get any type of compensation?
Posted on 5/12/22 at 3:51 pm to TTsTowel
Saints would never trade him to a division rival.

Panthers: How much for Sean Payton?

It's worth finding out how desperate and impatient Tepper is. If they offer something like two 1sts and Derrick Brown, New Orleans should take it, right?

He's going into the year with Sam Darnold as his starter. He knows it's over.

No. We would just use that as leverage against Jerruh. He will never be traded to a division rival.

Sean will be the coach of the cowboys in 2023. It’s super bowl or you’re fired for McCarthy this year.

Pretty sure when you retire your contract is just paused, so the Saints would still maintain his rights until he fulfills his contract (into perpetuity). So the answer to your question is never

If the Panthers offer more send him there. I don't care if we play them twice.

The Panthers can have him for next year's 1st & 2nd round draft pick, also either the 2024 1st rounder pick if next year's somehow isn't in the top 5.

Payton will have his choice of jobs. I doubt he would want to go to a division rival without much hope. The Panther’s roster has holes all over it, and without a long term solution at QB.
Of course, they could have a very high pick in the 2023 draft. There might be a QB that piques his interest, but the Saints would surely want that draft pick in a trade for the rights to him.

Funny how the Cowboys and Panthers reportedly want Payton. The Cowboys already have a Payton. His name is Mike McCarthy. They’re the same guy.

This is how I see it coming down. Jerry Jones wants Payton as head coach and those deep Texas pockets will pay dearly for his services and make it hard for Sean to pass up.

I'm sure Sean would rather go to the Cowboys but Tepper is worth twice Jerry.

That's dumb. He's an amazing head coach and we do not want him in our division. That would materially change our playoff chances each year a LOT more than if he coached a non-division foe.

So, Payton is going to be hired by the Dolphins, the Cowboys and the Panthers in the next year or two.
Damn... That dude is going to make $20M/yr as a HC at his next stop.

Meh. He's about to be 60 and models himself after Parcells, wherever he's going I'd give it 5 years. If he's open to either go with the best offer.
