Looking at it from the Cards' perspective, I don't know how or if this trade helps us tremendously. If Heyward plays right, what does that do to Grichuk, who has already shown he can play at this level and played some pretty damn good defense himself in the short time he was up, and Piscotty, who was being looked at to compete for that right field spot with Grichuk and has a cannon for an arm. If Heyward were hitting 30 HR's a year or something I could see where they want more pop in the lineup.

Waldon is just one more in line in the bullpen along with the million other young arms the Cards can throw out there.

Not upset with the trade but don't see where it necessarily makes the Cards better either.

Shelby Miller is bad, dude.

Steamer has him with a 4.11 ERA and 4.25 FIP for next year. When he loses his remaining velocity he is done.

Yeah I'm not thrilled about this deal, but I don't hate it. Grichuk can also play CF well. Heyward only has one year left on his deal so I don't think that hinders Piscotty too much. I'm more interested to see how this affects the rotation. Does Gonzalez start, or does Martinez start? Do they look outside the club? The front office has already said they have room to expand payroll significantly in the next few years.

The cardinals should trade Holliday. I love him but he's probably entering his twilight years. They could still get value for him from someone dumb like the yankees.

Yup. We wanted him to be the face of the franchise and technically there was still hope that he would turn into that person. I don't think he is that player tho.

This. People are attached to Heyward as a guy and as the once future heir to Atlanta baseball. The idea that we were going to get a haul for one year of his services is pretty ridiculous, and I liked him.

Starting to blossom?

6.25 K/9
3.59 BB/9
4.54 FIP

I have watched him pitch quite a bit, too. His four seamer was so bad this year he had to add a sinker.

Yes. He was pretty good in the second half.

Kind of doubt it.

Miller in his last 13 games last year: 2.92 ERA over 70+ IP and a WHIP under 1.00

DGAF about FIP or any dumbass 2014 projection system. It's about results. Miller and Mcdowell will be a great match.

Excited about Teheran, Wood, and Miller. Ultimately, Heyward wasn't the offensive game changer that we all hoped. Defensively an amazing player though.

UF head coaching search, Braves tear down and Ferguson riots are exactly what I need to get through the week as an Auburn fan.

Wacha >>> Heyward

I think you're overvaluing Heyward here. I like the guy but both parties needed a change of scenery. Miller for Heyward seems pretty fair. I would have hated to be pressured into signing Heyward to an extension after another underachieving year.
