I never trolled in this thread. Actually, a non-Cardinals fan felt it was appropriate to my thread unprovoked insults, calling a proud Cardinal fan a frickhead for posting that his team is the best run franchise in MLB.

I simply responded to his egotistical bullshite with an equally strong shot of ego-juice.

I can't help that someone is butthurt due to being a Reds fan...

I never called you a frickhead for starting this thread. It's an accurate thread, IMO. They are the best run franchise.

You are a HUGE TROLL... But That's you. I think the Cards area classy Organization.. Always liked them.. But They ARE NOT the best team in baseball at the end of the year [IMO] which is when it matters most........

And BTW. GROW A SPINE...............

Look, you are defining recent as you see fit. You aren't understanding that that's what you are doing, but it is what you are doing. Recent to you is years.

Well, nowhere in your posts have you actually and seriously tried to define "recent." I've given you my rationale for choosing 10 years. It's a pretty standard number. You've given me:

quote:

I already told you, I'm looking at the last 7 games for recent examples of success and the Yankees win. Sorry

Which is not serious and you know it.

You've also thrown out 20 years, which if you could back up, I might be more inclined toward it. You're right, I am defining "recent" as I see fit, but I'm doing so in accordance with sports' standards. You're doing so because you want to include the run of 4 World Series wins that happened over a decade ago.

I don't think anyone could argue that the Yankees were the team of the 90s (particularly late 90s), but in a debate over who the best run franchise of today is, you've mostly relied upon attacking my use of the last 10 years to measure the present success of MLB franchises rather than combating the argument itself.

When I took it to the last 5 years, using your criterion, I still showed that the Yankees are not the best run team in baseball today.

So you've concluded that the last 7 games is what matters. Well, bully for you. Your argument continues to get more and more ridiculous and you've made yourself out to be the fool.

So I go back to this:

quote:

For a person who so swiftly threw out the "y'all can't read!" jab, this is funny

I've read your arguments and I understand them. They're just disingenuous and sarcastic.

Sure, I'll be a frickhead and simply be honest with you. 99 percent of Cardinals fans are indeed nice midwestern people, but all of them secretly and truly believe that they are better than you. We just prefer to be nice about it...well, except me. I just prefer to be honest with you.

If you knew anything about people from St. Louis, you'd know this to be true.

If this were the case, they'd be considered Southerners and not Midwesterners. Midwesterners are genuine. Southerners hide behind a veil of gentility. Cardinals fans are Midwesterners (typically). Ergo, they don't actually believe they're better than others. You, sir, must not be from St. Louis.

(I wonder how many bombs this will set off.)

There's a degree of truth in this.

I decided not to feed the troll on that one. I have family in St. Louis. I've spent entire summers up there in Ballwin and Webster groves. I know for a fact that the people of that city aren't like that.

That's awesome. That's where I'm from. Seriously, next time you're up there, check out Schlafly's if you haven't already. I'm sure you know all about the Hill as well, but if you've never been, go. And Tucker's Place has some mean steaks.

I don't need to define recent because "recent success" is not my argument. It's yours. You set your own parameters here.

I'm merely saying we can block off any subset of data to support our point.

Anyhow, it doesn't really matter. We're quibbling over verbiage and probably don't really disagree all that much.

The OP was about the "Cardinals are clearly the best team in baseball" irrespective of time frame. You've introduced the "recent" talk, and I don't really see the relevance of it.

ETA: Also, only a person from St. Louis would think Schlflay's was "great beer."

Please, GOD, don't tell me you think Abita is better. It will invalidate any opinion you've ever had.

I'd rank them about equally.

But neither "great."

BAH! Fie on you! Schlafly's is far superior to the swill produced by Abita these days. There are better breweries (Brooklyn, NorthCoast, even New Belgium), but Schlafly's is delicious. I can hardly drink Abita since they lost their brew master.

I don't drink much Abita, and I've only had a handful of Schlafly's but nothing I drank made me swoon.

There's just a lot of great beer distributed in and around Chicago.

Kansas City beer is better, but that's an unpopular opinion.

Actually, I'm from just north of St. Louis and am in STL about one weekend per month.

My opinion is that St. Louis people are cliquey ego maniacs. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I believe a large part of why the Cards are great is because of STL pretension.
