I don't see how. I stated an opinion and the thread took off! Hell, you even posted in it so my opinion must have hit a nerve.
Are you a Braves fan?

But the OP's argument is "Best team in baseball."
No it isn't.
From the OP:
quote:(emphasis added)
Does anyone have any doubt that the Cardinals are the best run MLB franchise?
quote:
Are you 10 years old?
20 years is the present. I'm 28. The Yankees have won 5 titles in my lifetime alone. That's pretty present.
I'm 27. The things that have occurred in my lifetime are not present. Top Gun came out during my lifetime. You think that's a present movie? If you do, reevaluate.
I picked 10 years because that is typically what is used to determine success. Sports analysts and writers often talk about "the team of the decade." Ten years is pretty standard. That's why I used it.
quote:
Selective history is selective.
Then why are you using it?
Because we're not talking about which was the best run team of the 70s. We're talking about which is the best run team of today. The history I have selected is the past ten years as a result.
quote:
What other criterion even matters?
Clearly no other criteria to you. To me, and to many, the fact that they Yankees don't win a pennant every year and win the World Series every other year is crazy when one considers the fact that they have the deepest pockets in baseball and have historically, as well as presently, paid FAR more for their talent than any other team (except, of course, last year's Dodgers). So, given that they are essentially an all-star team, or at least their payroll suggests as much, they ought to win more. The fact that they don't suggests something else is wrong - that they aren't as well run as they should be. Then you look at the teams they're losing to and you see that their payrolls are nowhere near the Yankees'. Conclusion: the other teams are run better.
quote:
I think you are cherry picking pieces of data to support your preconceived opinion.
My "preconceived opinion" is backed up by the last 10 years of data. If you want to look at the last 5 years because you think that's more relevant, and the only criteria you look at is WS Championships, the Giants are the best run team in baseball.
Again, if you think 10 years is too long a time period to look at, the Yankees are still not the best run franchise in baseball by your criteria (or rather, criterion). So, you still lose your argument. If you look at last year, the Cardinals, Tigers, and Giants all made it further in the playoffs than the Yankees. If you look at this year, the Cardinals have a better winning percentage than the Yankees, so you STILL LOSE YOUR ARGUMENT.
BUT if you go back 100 years, you win. Congratulations.
Go ahead, continue to argue about how the only thing that matters in a discussion about the present day running of MLB franchises is World Series championships won over a century of baseball. Go ahead. I know you will.

Yeah, I thought about the A's, too. They seem to be the best run "business" out of all the franchises. They know how to grow talent and then sell it, that's for sure.

1. frick the Cardinals.
2. I'm jealous of the organization. Their front office is top notch, and so are the vast majority of the fans I talk to IRL.
3. 90% of the Cardinals fans on this site are complete and utter frickfaces. I don't even like talking baseball with them, which is saying a lot. I hate that "our shite don't stink" attitude. I never get that impression when I am in St. Louis in a bar or at the stadium. Only on this site. Pretty pathetic.

yea, if you want to talk about a team doing more with less money, talk about the A's not the Cards

Geaux and bbap. That's it.
The rest are obnoxious tools, and will stay that way until they prove otherwise.

The creation of the SEC Rant was the worst thing to ever happen to the MSB.

Okay...so someone who posts an opinion that their favorite team is the best run franchise in baseball is an automatic frickhead?
The only person being an absolute frickhead is you.
I assume that's because your avi indicates that you're a Reds fan, which must suck because you're constantly second best to the Cardinals. Sure, your team finishes the season ahead of the Cards every now-and-then, but it must be difficult to watch the Cards reach the playoffs as a wildcard and then win an historical legendary Championship series.
Actually, we've done that twice in the past decade.
And, we've been the weedkiller to the Braves' dandelion seasons the past two years.
Must suck being second rate.
Sure, I'll be a frickhead and simply be honest with you. 99 percent of Cardinals fans are indeed nice midwestern people, but all of them secretly and truly believe that they are better than you. We just prefer to be nice about it...well, except me. I just prefer to be honest with you.
If you knew anything about people from St. Louis, you'd know this to be true.

Well, I hope I don't fall into that 90%. I can definitely say that the Cardinals, while my favorite team in any major sport having been born and raised in St. Louis, have had some pretty terrible years, including while I lived there.
Don't judge me based on this thread, since I mostly just like to argue and I think the Yankees are the Devil's gift to baseball.

When Mozeliak took over, I was pretty skeptical, but things have turned out pretty good so far.

PS - Next time you're in St. Louis, check out Schlafly's Bottleworks or Brewery. Great food and better beer.

For a person who so swiftly threw out the "y'all can't read!" jab, this is funny.
Look, you are defining recent as you see fit. You aren't understanding that that's what you are doing, but it is what you are doing. Recent to you is years.
I already told you, I'm looking at the last 7 games for recent examples of success and the Yankees win. Sorry.

Good! So do I. I'll enjoy coming over here from time-to-time to check up on the resident Reds fans to see how that elusive championship run is coming along.
Actually, I consider the fricking Reds to be the Cardinals' red headed step brother. The Reds organization is run by former Cardinals management and former burnt out players. We'll send you some of our injured sometime soon! The Reds are sort of like the Night's Watch in Game of Thrones.
