Beckett will get hurt, as will Buchholz, and I don't like Kevin Youkilis at third. I still think we should trade Papi for some pitching, bring up Middlebrooks, and DH Youk.

Out of three I think Rays have less question marks

I know at some point ARod and Jeter will end up on DL... I am not sure Granderson will hit like that again, I expect some regression from Martin, Tex seems to be declining (although I hope he bounces back), Swisher is on decline but still has power, I do think Gardner improves and Cano.

Pitching I can not wait to see Pineda and I wonder how Kurdo will transition into the AL... and I am aware I butchered the spelling of their names but it is 1am

That will be interesting. I want to see how Bard transitions to starter. I'm just kinda pissy the Red Sox basically threw the towel in this year. Next year they are going to go after every starter of any significance.

Yes.

The Yankees will. But they can.

What questions do they have on offense? Longoria, Pena, Upton, Zobrist, Jennings, Luke Scott, Matt Joyce.

Rodriguez, Brignac, Elliot Johnson all have 20 HR potential. Sam Fuld is a nice player as well.

Tampa wins running away, barring injuries. Toronto is going to push NY and Bos hard as well.

Red Sox have a good core... IF Beckett/Clay/Lester can stay healthy they have a solid 3. Key is Dustin, Youk, Papi, Jacob, Crawford... if they all produce the way they should then Boston will have a top 5 offense

I always think that this is the year that normal aging patterns will catch up to the Yankees -- but they seem immune to it. Though last year did seem the first real cracks (Posada, Jeter, A-Rod, and Tex all look real old all of a sudden).

Yankees have a lot questions for a team with a $200 million payroll.

How can it be said that they have the best pitching in the division...

CC>Price
Hellickson=Nova
Moore unproven
Pineda less unproven
Hughes>Davis/Neiman barring health issues

Don't sell us short...

Yankees >>> Rays

Can the Rays win the East? sure
But will they? No

The Yankees are still the best team in the East. Last year they still were the #2 offense in the league, with down years from their studs like Jeter (first half), ARod, and Tex. And with the overachieving pitching they had, where this year the have their #2(Nova) last year is now their #4. Pineda will do fine in the AL East, we will see how Kuroda does, but you'd have to assume it will be better than Burnett last year. I see the Yankees winning the pennant.

But I see the Rays winning the Wild Card. And Pena is poo, Kotchman has outperformed him in everything but homeruns. Sure Pena will be a decent 7th hole DH, but he isn;t gonna return to the Pena he was at cleanup in his previous stint with the Rays.

Boston will be a huge question mark. I could see them playing like 2009, but also could see them playing like last year.

You can't be serious.

Price + Shields + Hellickson + Moore >>>

CC, Nova, Pineada, and Hughes

The Rays definitely have a shot to win it. Their staff should keep them in it, but they have no where near the lineup that the Yanks do. Rays will need big years from Longo, Zorilla, and Jennings.

Of course

I hate Carlos Pena

Definitely.

Good pitching, as mentioned.

Also Luke Scott, while an ignoramous, is an underrated signing in a park that favors LHH. He could put up some really solid power numbers.

Longoria can't stay healthy
Pena can't hit his weight
Jennings is still unproven really
Uptown ton of potential but still struggles and can't be inconsistent
Zobrist which player is he struggled at time last year
Scott is he player that struggled last year or good player from year before

They have a lot of potential on offense but have a lot of questions as many of players you named still haven't put together good seasons.

They were 15th in runs last season
23rd in average
9th in home runs
15th in RBI

Their pitching is why they are so good. Nobody can match their starting pitching on a daily basis. Rays win the East going away this year and might be the best team in baseball. Yanks will probably win the wild card.

Jennings is a superstar IMO. He's gonna have a huge year.

and they got better over the offseason... Longoria is in a better place than he was this time last year...

the potential is there to have solid offensive production... the bullpen is probably bigger of the two question marks.

Starters yes. Their pen is a little shaky though. NY improved their staff and should close the overall gap in pitching.

The big question is if Tampa can produce some more runs. They had a differential of less than 100 runs...compared to NY's 210.

I am not calling Pena and improvement over the season Kotch had.

Jennings is a young player who Doesn't even have a full season under his belt, little early for superstar label

Imagine Hal wants the Yankees to have an 189 million payroll in 2 years.

I'm really interested to see what happens with the rotation.
I think Kuroda may end up being a better add than Pineda. Pineda is such a fly ball oriented SP, and while he has tremendous stuff (and he's ridiuclously young), I could see him getting mashed on pretty badly in that park as opposed to where he was pitching.

But there's questions with Kuroda too... who previously wouldn't back off his "never leave the West Coast" stance. Can he take the heat of NY?
