Imagine Hal wants the Yankees to have an 189 million payroll in 2 years.

Very doable. We're at $205-mil this year and have $118-million committed already in next year. Martin & Swisher are our "big FAs". I doubt Rivera comes back as well.

Yanks have 75 million tied up in 4 players I believe. Tex, Arod, Jeter, and CC. Granderson and Cano have contracts to take care of with Martin. I know it can be done

But there's questions with Kuroda too... who previously wouldn't back off his "never leave the West Coast" stance. Can he take the heat of NY?

Kuroda will be alright. His numbers will dip but he'll still be a sub-3.50 ERA pitcher. He doesn't need to light it up since he'll likely be a 3/4.

I think Kuroda may end up being a better add than Pineda.

This year, no doubt.

Pineda is such a fly ball oriented SP, and while he has tremendous stuff (and he's ridiuclously young), I could see him getting mashed on pretty badly in that park as opposed to where he was pitching.

He'll definitely struggle this year. If he can stay under a 4 ERA, I'm satisfied.

The staff was actually pretty solid last year and we had to replace 2 guys.

Kuroda & Pineda >>>>>> AJ & Colon

Next year it'll be $92-million.

Cano has a club option for $15-million (compared to 14 this year).

Granderson has a $14-million club option ($10 this year)

Martin will probably get $10-million max. He isn't much more than a stop gap until the young guys are ready.

We'll lock up Grandy and Cano long term though.

They can win the east as a strong and deep pitching staff over the course of a season can offset a bad offense (yes the Rays are bad, especially for the AL East). Where not having a good offense and bullpen has come to hurt them is the playoffs where they ran into a team that can shut them down with a good pitching staff and bullpen, but can also score a lot of runs, a lot of different ways. SF in 2010 had a bullpen that was just as good as their pitching staff, so who cared about their offense. And Pena is good, but he hasn't had a BA over .227 in the past 3 years and has had over 158 strikeouts the last 4 years. Sorry, but there are better options at first. He may hit for power, but thats it.
