when conferences started making billions of dollars

Because of the fans/alumni.

quote:

hundreds of millions into facilities

Most of those investments only benefit the athletes (new training facilities, new locker rooms, new housing, new support buildings, etc) so that directly opposes your argument.

quote:

ten million dollar coaching salaries

Again that benefits the players, they are the ones receiving the coaching on a daily basis, not the fans.

Why should I, as an alumni/customer, care about the compensation of amateurs? What benefit do I gain from this? Keep in mind, myself and millions of other alumni/fans (aka customers) are the sole reason why those media contracts and other revenue streams exist so those facilities can be built and those coaches can get paid and I see no direct personal benefit from that, so why should I be in favor of AMATEUR athletes being paid more than what they were already being more than fairly compensated for.

would love to see what Beats are paying per year for all their other athlete endorsement deals.

Practically every college athlete are already wearing them pre-game so Beats was getting a ton of free advertising just from that

Do you agree that conferences and schools threw away the idea of college football being an amateur sport years ago?

No. The athletes and lawyers did that.

Blue Blood is a term invented on the fact that a select agreed upon fully like 6-8 schools have been at the top of the sport for 100+ years

NIL will not change this.

The ones with the money are the same ones.

I'm not really wanting to cap it off as much as when they cross over the total value of their scholarship...they pay it back. Make whatever you want after that. I just find it hard to justify a dude who is now essentially a millionaire getting a fully funded free ride.

Only like .05% of college football players will get these deals of a million dollars.

On top of that the schools are making millions off these players.

This. When did the free education become not enough

Can they not cap NIL at 36,000 per player per year??? That’s like 3000 a month which along with the scholarship and perks should have college kids living comfortably in any market

When the colleges started making millions off the tv contracts and bowl games.

The overwhelming majority of ADs have to be subsidized by student fees just to break even and even then most ADs still don’t break even.

Those “profits” are usually as the result of capital fundraising efforts. As I said, 99.99% of athletes cost the school more than they contribute in value. Hell that 1 in 10,000 may even be generous because one player isn’t going to make or break a program’s support.

Tim Tebow is probably the most popular/successful player in UF football history and their fans didn’t disappear once he left. Even the most elite players still need the schools more than the schools need them. Without a college team attached to him, Caleb Williams would not be getting paid a single cent from Beats. He has no value to them other than the value he obtains from playing college football - a system which he had no part in building but benefits from nonetheless.

It was all a set up.

Not trolling him. Just a combined laugh.

I like capitalism, but don't agree with this when it comes to college athletes on scholarships.

What if NIL contracts could not be specified to remaining with a school? I think that would be an interesting revision.

Per the NCAA rules they cannot be tied to a specific school.

The sponsors and schools are laughing at that rule. It's unenforceable.

You've got kids no one knows outside of their local city that are making big money deals.

I realize this is a long term play. But who were they competing with?

Dude would have been stoked for far less than that

NIL also means there must be an exchange involved.

We’ll pay you X amount to do Y services. That’s how endorsements and the like work. That’s not what is taking place.

Williams can do one twitter ad for Beats and meet the rule.
