Pretty cool. Could basketball go to an extended draft where teams own the "rights" to college players?
ETA: he scored a goal tonight in his first game. A playoff game. Less than a week after playing in the NCAA title game.

That is pretty cool. Not sure how fast college players typically make it to the NHL, but that seems really quick. I remember when Brandon Finnegan pitched for TCU in the College World Series then for the Royals in the 2015 World Series and thought that was incredible. This probably tops that.

I was just reading about the NHL's expansion draft for Seattle coming up. It's highway robbery. No wonder Las Vegas was good.

I posted about him in the NHL thread. Apparently this burns a year of his contract and makes him eligible for the next expansion draft. So if they get eliminated in five games ( they won’t imho) they might regret this.

Cale Makar.... 20 yrs old.
Friday: Won the Hobey Baker Award as college hockey’s most outstanding player.
Saturday: Played for UMass and lost the NCAA championship game.
Sunday: Signed a contract with the Avs.
Monday: Met his new Avs teammates this morning, first period of an NHL game played in, first NHL goal, first NHL playoff goal, parents in the crowd from Canada to see it all.
Great story.

Taro Hirose finished his season with Michigan State on March 9. Signed with the Red Wings on March 12. Played his first NHL game on March 19. Played the final 10 games of Detroit's season and had 1G and 6A.
Was also one of the 10 finalist for the Hobey Baker.
