From a neutral observer his rotations would just infuriate me. It started to make sense why some guys played such big minutes because he seemed lost on who to send in to the game at times. He LOVES him some Kirk Hinrich.

And I believe that you and I have watched more Bulls games than just about anyone who has posted in this thread.

The only reason I like him for the Pels is because he could get Asik and Davis playing well, but I believe JVG can do that, and I think JVG has learned a ton being away from the game for a while. I think he will try to get some top assistants who really know offense.

He's an obvious top 5 coach.

I would put Carlisle and Pop above him. After that...? Kerr and Bud have done great this year but still kind of unproven. Kidd and Brad Stevens are doing nice and all but still nothing special yet. SVG is alright? I'm not even gonna mention non playoff team coaches.

Blatt is doing pretty good I think but you cant judge a coach who plays with LeBron until LeBron is gone.. Like Spo isn't so hot anymore..

I mean idk.

Doc Rivers is super overrated. But even then he's still not above Thibs. McHale is just a doormat for Morey and still isn't anything special.

Nope. I hope Thibs gets his next job in the West, so people can stop giving him so much credit.

As shitty of a thing it was, I liked the rumor that the Bulls were going to wait until the rest of the openings closed before letting him go. I don't want to see him coaching a team in our division because like I have said I think he is still a great coach. I just saw a lot of things I didn't like this season that I might have overlooked in seasons past due to only seeing them a handful of times.

Name your top 5 coaches.

Carlisle and Pop are the only 2 obvious guys I would put over him. Kerr and Bud are to early into their careers to really judge them yet.

Honestly, I think there are elite guys and then most are about the same. It's a players league.

I don't think Thibs would just magically make Houston, Cleveland, Washington, etc. better. I do think Popovich could make Chicago better though.

The trick to winning in the NBA is having elite players and a coach that doesn't get in the way.

Name 5 coaches better man. Yall keep saying he isn't top or barely top 10 but no one has named a single fricking named besides Pop.

Name 5 coaches that are proven better than him right now.

I totally agree it's more about the players than the coach. But the coach really shines whenever he has no elite players or has a ton of injuries, ala Thibs the last few years with D Rose out.

@dan_bernstein: #Bulls sources: at least three starters ripped Thibs in exit interview, said they'd avoid team facility this summer if he were still there.

Saw somewhere else that the players were really pushing this. So unusual in the NBA.

If I have an elite roster, he is not a Top 5 coach I want. I'm sorry. I would take both Van Gundys, Pop, Carlisle, Kerr, Bud, McHale, Spoelstra, Kidd, and more. He's not a player's coach, and that has started to be revealed by players saying things to the media.

A players coach is what an elite roster needs. Thibs might be the best coach at getting the most out of a bad roster, but that doesn't mean much when the goal is championship.

Noah, Butler, Gasol. They have tons of talent. Tons.

Jury is still out imo.

They were doing decently until they got annihilated by injuries.

Bosh going down hurt them bad.

Spo is also the first coach to get anything of value out of Whiteside since he's been in and out of the NBA.

By the end of the season some of the 10 day guys they signed were getting significant minutes.

I think after Pop and Carlisle things get a bit murky because you have sooo many guys early in their careers.

I think most would have Spo up there. A lot of people would have Doc (I'm not as high on him.) I think Frank Vogel is up there. Kerr, Bud, Joerger, Hornaceck, and Kidd have all had relatively great early success. SVG is up there.

I think it is honestly easier to rank the bad coaches

Eta: And I realized I forgot to mention McHale as one of the good ones. I literally forget about him all the time and I don't know why.

McHale sucked balls for the Timberwolves, but it was no accident that he finished 6th in the Coach of the Year voting. Guy is a great with managing personalities. We've survived two "team cancers" in Dwight and Josh Smith.

Am I crazy for saying Brad Stevens is on the rise? To have that club near .500 is nothing short of remarkable IMO.

Like I am completely unconvinced on how much of the Warriors offensive and defensive improvements are due to Kerr, but the man seems to get the dealing with players part perfectly

I can't believe I forgot Brad Stevens

Another guy who makes trying to come up with a top 5-10 impossibly hard.

It's tough when the average NBA coach has been with their team for like 2 seasons
