Whew ! Only 9 years. I bet she is relieved. Can you imagine how draconian the racist anti-black drug laws in AmeriKKKa are by comparison? I bet she would get 40 years on the chain gang here.

Seriously, when she's back on US soil, I have no expectation that she will have any true appreciation for the country of her birth, and for The Rule of Law. None. Zero. Nada. She will utter a few cliches and then return to being an anti-white bigot who has no understanding of the true greatness of America.

Vapes/carts are measured in grams, they’re usually 1/2 gram and 1 gram carts.

She had .7 grams of hashish oil which is equivalent to .7 grams.

A student that was actually carrying some weight was left off with a fine within the last year. So yeah, she’s being treated differently.

No shite. The people who share Griner's political ideology are those who are sanctioning Russia and its oligarchs, giving Ukraine billions of dollars to fight a war and clamoring for Sweden and Finland to join NATO. Anyone with an ounce of common sense should know that, of all times to commit a crime in Russia as a Western liberal, this is likely the worst. And I think what's happening to her is absolute bullshite.

Don’t forget that the same people demanding her release are the same ones cheering the Jan 6th committee hearings and incarcerations.

Oh wow. So that flips it the other way. Why are we all of a sudden making an all out push for Griner but not this guy?

One is quasi-famous and has sports stars, celebrities and an entire pro league calling for her release and the other is completely anonymous?

To your point, her status is screwing her both ways…she has a lot of backing but no way was she not getting convicted given the current situation.

This is just so weird to me, but I guess that’s kind of where we are as a country unfortunately.

Disagree with someone’s politics, so I hope they get 10 years for weed.

I mean, don’t get me wrong, it is her fault and there’s the other side of the aisle who is completely trying to avoid her of fault (when she has no one else to blame), but I just don’t get why I’d be happy that someone is getting screwed over by a terrible law in a foreign country.

The general rule for stuff like this is to keep quiet and let the attorneys and state department officials negotiate a solution. Because if you cause an international scene the local authorities are going to bring the hammer down to save face. That's why you never heard a big fuss over this guy.

But when the female basketball player got busted the media went all-in and created a sh*tstorm and Russia is going to play hardball in return.

Now this guy's family is pissed he wasn't included in the deal for the world's biggest illegal arms dealer so they are raising a fuss. I don't blame them, they have nothing to lose now. It's too bad he doesn't belong to one of the Democrats cherished groups. Maybe he should come out as a tranny.

Gotta say that I’m pretty surprised by the percentage of those kinds of posts, even on this message board

I get being ambivalent and not caring one way or the other, but if this actually made me happy, I’d know that I was in a mental/emotional state that I absolutely don’t want to be in.

Not judging, I just don’t want to be that consumed with “socio-political team ball”. But to each their own.

Gotcha. Whats the bud to hash gram to gram? like 5-1?!

So she had roughly 4g of bud, which according to what I have read on Russian law as of 2016 6g is criminal and below 6g is considered to be a misdemeanor?

I know this is political theater, but I do wonder if any weight is given to this being taken through customs as opposed to it just being found on the street during a stop?

Yeah those strict murder laws in the US sure stop people from murdering. Oh wait. Not to mention it doesn’t even deter Russians from using drugs

What are you talking about. Griner hated America. She said she was oppressed here. She is a drug smuggling criminal and broke Russia’s law. I was hoping she would receive 10 years. She got off light.

CoyoteSong,

You really think 9 years for weed is a light sentence? You’re a messed up person.

That’s your right, but just be aware that if it were you in a Russian prison, Britney Griner wouldn’t give a single frick about you.
