Clemson’s last two CFP performances makes it clear that his defense feasts on typical college level QB skill level and intimidation.

Stuff the line, stop the run and swarm the QB into a panic and throw in a lot of late play clock alignment readjustments.

A QB that can take the top off and a play cadence that isn’t hurry up, starts at normal pace then quick snaps, screws up the whole thing.

It’ll work in the ACC regular season and against lesser bowl opponents but is vulnerable to top level talent.

I went to sleep after the Fiesta Bowl last season saying LSU was going to beat Clemson by at least 2 TDs. OSU put up over 500 yards and missed so many opportunities, along with frankly just some bad calls that cost them points.

We talk up venables so much, but it’s really only been 2018 where they had a downright filthy defense.

All the other years (including the deshawn Watson teams) their defense got torched in the CFP.

Well if you havent noticed ,all great offenses torch good defenses. With few exceptions. This started to be even more apparent last year

Yea, having one of the best starting d-lines in CFB history would make any halfway competent DC look like a genius.

I couldn't believe when Fields was playing injured, Clemson didn't put extra effort into stopping Sermon.
Unlike Queen on Etienne, Sermon ran free all game, with noone within ten yards when he got the ball.
Venables is much overrated.

The best you can do is tighten up in the red zone vs a truly explosive offense. A prolific offense will put up points. Clemson’s main issue last night was that they couldn’t rush the football leading to inefficiency.

You can say this about any scheme but his works so much better when they can get pressure with their DL and front 7 (see 2018)

His scheme vs lsu last year was about as good as you could hope for. Nothing was going to keep that offense down the whole game.

You can ask any player or coach on last years team and they will tell you that Venables scheme is the best in the country. The Jimmies matter

Yea, they had 8 guys in the box and that is when fields was throwing bombs over the top. Sermon didn't care either, he is playing great and running so hard

Nothing will stop herbie from saying the name Brent Venables 689 times per broadcast. Once for every yard his defense gives up.

He used to do that with Nick Aliotti, who wasn't even good. Herbie needs to make sure his two 150lb sons get some garbage time pt.

I mean backnin the day you never even knew who the coordinators were. It was about the players on the TV broadcast now every play breakdown goes back to

"Hey this is what is so special about this Brett Venables defense...they show you cover 3 but at the last minute switch to man under....you have to be able to execute these concepts to play for Venables."

His OU defenses were atrocious, which is why I'm surprised with the success he's had at Clemson.
