Did he say homo or fig? Either way he should know better. Even in the 1970s you would never call a fan a N word if he or she was heckling you.
I think athletes should practice saying a-hole or motherfricker. It appears you can say those things and not get punished.

You know who uses the offending word the most? Gays. They call each other "****" all the time. They are in no way offended or hurt by the word. It's just another weapon to use or hold over the head of straight white males.
