The current bowls don't generate any revenue for AQ teams, so there's that.
i know some bowls make teams lose money, but i doubt every bowl causes this
and the exposure schools get for bowls, as well as tradition and fanbase rallying are intrinsic things that have value

Also, I would say that schools like Boise, TCU, Utah, BYU, Houston (before Case Keenum got hurt, anyway), Fresno State, Hawaii, Nevada, etc. have earned better exposure
you can wish all you want, until people start to give a shite about them, they haven't earned it
that's the market, and the market says, by and large, it doesn't give a frick about non-BCS teams

and in the case of Boise State, drawing strong ratings.
in one game, while drawing shite ratings the rest of the season (and in their BCS bowl game last year)
and just because BSU may have some national attention doesn't mean its conference has

^^^ This. Everyone forgets that #3 TCU and #5 Utah couldn't even get a national televised game.

and it's not like there aren't distinctions within BCS conferences
you don't see mississippi state or vandy on many 230 CBS games
if MSU or Vandy were more popular, they'd get on more 230 games
and there is a flip side among the "big boys"
Notre Dame has its own fricking network, even when they suck they're all over the national news and in the national conscious

Why not a playoff of nothing but non AQ teams? Why should the big boys be forced to do a playoff if they don't want to?
As far as them losing money on bowls the reason there is no playoff is because the university Presidents don't want it. I'm going to take a wild guess and say the people that run the univerities and ad's know more about the finances than you or the guys at SI. Most of these schools are public universities and have strict oversight. Some schools may lose on individual bowls, the payout they get on that game vs cost for that game but not overall.

As far as I know, teams are required to pay for lodging, travel arrangements, and unsold tickets at every bowl, which ends up being more money than their bowl winnings, most of which goes to their conferences anyway.
