Olympic gold medal in pentathlon, decathlon, voted into pro football hall of fame, and played pro baseball. I don't think anyone on that list can match his achievements.
Jim Thorpe is the correct answer, but there's not enough youtube video on the guy for him to get a fair shake.

Bo, as great as he was, didn't accomplish anything at the professional level. There's no way that he can be the GOAT. It has to be someone who has dominated an athletic sport at the elite level. Brown is a better choice, but is he even the greatest football player of all time? I would put Michael Jordan, Babe Ruth, Usain Bolt, and Michael Phelps ahead of both of them. And, yes, Thorpe is the answer to the question.

You know, there's a story that Ray Guy's high school track team needed a triple jumper so somebody taught him the steps for it on the way to the region championship and he won. At the same meet he won the discus after picking it up for the first time earlier that week.

Exactly. This was a popularity contest for the most part and then it got serious as it narrowed down.
I don't think anyone compares to Thorpe's achievements in multiple sports.

You know, if we had been discussing this topic five years ago, Lance Armstrong and Barry Bonds would have been discussed in this thread.

In my opinion, Lance Armstrong can still be in the discussion.

It's Bo the greatest athlete.

Haha, that shite was ridiculous when you had Bo. The only other time I remember a player like that was in Madden with Vick. They made him too good as well.

If Bo, Thorpe, and Brown were able to compete against each other in an all around athletic competition in their primes, there is no doubt Bo would win

I think you need to go read up on Thorpe's accomplishments.
