It is now, but that wasn't the case when the song was originally written.
Same thing does for Lift Every Voice. It was a song originally written to give black people hope while we had no rights. At this point in time, it's a song that anyone can enjoy.

Wow I never thought I’d hit a trigger. We are way too divided. I paid 50 yrs of taxes for programs that were supposed to help blacks catch up after what we did to them. And now I get a black national anthem at the Super Bowl and colleges that will allow black groups to exclude whites but nobody can exclude gays? FUBAR.
