When dinardo's captains won the toss and said "we'll kick" instead of saying "we defer to the second half".
then, in the second have, the had to kick again.

LSU shouldn't have even been in the game to begin with. Ole Miss had a lot better production out of their players.
You could say this about almost every game LSU played last year.

can't happen this way. If they won the toss abs elected to kick, then they have no choice but to receive after half.
One team would have to defer to second half, giving the other team the option. That team then would have to choose to kick. Then in second half the original team who elected to defer would obviously receive thus receiving both halves
ETA, and for a team to kick both halves they would have to lose the coin flip

False
Denham Springs kicked off in the Catholic game to start both halves because of this in 2003.

pay attention-
when you win the toss you have two options:
1- accept the decision
2- defer to the second half
lsu accepted the decision when they said "kick"
so the decision for the second half went to the opponent. and, of course, they chose to receive.

Not the biggest, but the Rahim Alem punt/kick against Arkansas in 2008 definitely made me scratch my head. What made me scratch my head even more was Miles pulling him for a play, patting him on the butt, and then sending him back out there.

It is almost 25 years to the day that he inexplicably threw that pass to James Worthy, and Fred Brown wants to talk about the hurt.
This. He turned and passed the ball right to Worthy.

no you pay attention. If you win the toss you are given 3 essential option:
1) kick or receive
2) which goal to defend
3) defer
if you choose to kick or receive, then the second half kickoff is set by rule
if you choose to defer, then the option is then given to the losing team for the first half, with the second half option still remaining with the winning team.
If the losing team messes up, and decides the kick after being presented the option, then the winning team is still offered the option to start the second half, and can receive both halves by electing to receive.
This is the only way it can happen.
This is the way it happened in your example, and this is the way it happened in Colonels example.

well that is not what my dumb teammates said they did.
They said they won and said they would kickoff instead of saying they deferred to the second half.

Either they are mistaken or the ref made a huge blunder.
You can go look up the LHSAA rulebook which is the same nationally and see there is no way for this to happen in the manner described. Unless the ref blunders

Well I have no clue what happened. It was actually the St Amant game and we got our asses kicked in true DSHS fashion. So the blunder didn't really matter.

Tide has turned in denham and I think the current trend will stick around for a bit
I coach at SJH in denham, and we keep sending up a lot of good talent

On the referee side you can't forget Ed Hochuli's bonehead incomplete pass call in the San Diego-Denver game. I can excuse him for making a bad call. But it is inexcusable, that the call somehow wasn't changed through the review process due to some technicality. Everybody saw the fumble, and the ref should have had the guts to discard his first call and call it as such.

You are wrong. If someone choses to kick the other team still has the choice come second half. It even states that in the rules you posted. That is the reason you can "defer."

Then Colorado wins on a 3-pointer as time expires.
