Upon further review it is not totally clear based on that

As a coach in the LHSAA (under same guidelines as NCAA in this regard) for the passed 10 years, we have elected to kick anytime we won the toss

I wonder now if the ref was just assuming second half options, or if they are implied by rules. It isn't clear

I was a captain in HS, and the only options I remember us using were "We want the ball" or "Defer."

I too was a captain and we went on d quite often. But I'm
not sure if the refs were just protecting us from making dumb calls, or if it is implied

Reggie Bush tries to lateral the ball at the five. Yard line against UT in the NC instead of just letting himself be tackled.

That's a little embellished.

When dinardo's captains won the toss and said "we'll kick" instead of saying "we defer to the second half".

then, in the second have, the had to kick again.

That was Bradie James in 2002 with Saban as the coach.

early 90s qb for bonnabel...

bruins had a 5 point lead in 1st round of playoffs over st. aug... about 8 seconds left 4th down bruins ball around mid field..

bonnabel coaches told qb to run around till he saw or heard time run out THEN take a knee...

well... he improvised saw and heard time expire and THREW the ball straight up in the air...

st aug player caught the ball and raced to the end zone...

X. Carter is the first thing to come to mind. I've never seen anything else quite like that.

Someone else mentioned Adrian McPherson lining up under the right guard, but the sad part is that isn't even the most hilarious thing that happened to him. Everyone else remember him getting run over by the Titan's mascot in a golf cart? He tore his ACL and ended his season. Poor guy.

Prude wasn't anywhere near touching the ball. They just called a personal foul for jumping and falling on the line. Duval flat out shanked it. (it was Duval, right?)
That was one of the most absurd, outrageous, atrocious, whatever you want to say, calls I've ever witnessed.

eta- John Vaughn was the Auburn kicker

His coaches were stupid for putting them back there at that time. No need for them to catch a missed kick.

I remember that. I thought that was mid to late 90s, though.

DeSean Jackson dropping the ball before he crossed into the endzone cost me a win in ffb that weekend. 8 point swing (6 for would be td, -2 for fumble), lost by 3. fricker

nah

It happened to my highschool football team 2 or 3 times one season. I have always held the belief he just shouldn't have done it in the first place. That has been a rule forever.

Forgot about this one. When I was a freshman in HS, We were playing a team and were up 12. They were going into score with about 8 minutes left and all the momentum in the world. Upon Crossing the 5 yd. line thinking it was the goal line their running back dropped the ball and started celebrating. We recovered and won the game.
