According to Purdue mods

This fact appears to be coming into focus: Non-conference games will be punted and the Big Ten appears headed to playing a 10-game, conference-games-only schedule.

When could a decision be made on a move from a 12- to a 10-game schedule, with each Big Ten school jettisoning its three non-conference games?

“Probably in the next eight to 10 days,” said the source.

The 10 games probably would be played over 13-14 weeks.

“They're just trying to create flexibility if a team gets a bunch of cases and they can't play one week," said the source. "They want flexibility. Control and flexibility are key. Give yourself maybe two or three weeks of flexibility with 10 games over 13, 14 weeks. … that gives you flexibility to maneuver games around if a team can't play because they get too many cases.”

I guess it was inevitable. Conference-only schedule of 10 games gives the Big 10 more control, influence, and flexibility to get a full season played.

Are bus rides really all that better than flights?

What does ND do if everyone goes conference only? Maybe sneak into the ACC for a season?

If ACC doesn't screw them, it looks like they can still play six games.

Wet dream scenario for the SEC

-13 game conference only schedule, play every team in conference
-No divisions
-Top two finishers play for the conference championship on New years
-Screw bowl games/playoffs

Haven't checked the calendar, but should be enough time to schedule two bye weeks during the season plus time off during final exams.

the Big Ten has no room to talk about travel when they go from New Jersey to Nebraska...

What does ND do in general?

They have the ACC connection, so that might be a lifeline if more conferences go to a conference only schedule.

Because of the travel, I read the other day that Rutgers and Maryland were probably out or wanted some type of COVID compensation. Driving halfway across the country for games seems ridiculous. Speaking of which, good luck this year WVU.

navy will play them
see no reason why western michigan wouldnt want that paycheck either

some of these poverty conferences would be pretty dumb to go "conference only"

When it looked like some B1G teams would bail, U-M fans were pretty unified in saying "add ND and some Michigan directionals." ND will be fine.

I love big nonconference games, but you may still be able to do a decent playoff this way and your conference champions are even more true than other years when a lot of teams don't play each other. But, there will be no measuring sticks of how good everyone is outside of conference.

If you were the ACC, it almost feels like now is the chance to force ND’s hand and join the conference.

Just delaying the inevitable. The season will not happen.

Let's just move the season to the Spring. It'll still be fun, even without some of the first round draft picks playing.

Thats actually good news if true

If the B1G is going to play a conference schedule than football is on for everyone

Too many big players in the conference on most of the largest schools

Pac-12 can eat shite

I don’t think distance is the biggest factor. The Big10 can’t predict the actions of other schools/conferences.

As of now, they want to play a season of 10 games. The best way forward for them is to eliminate as many variables as possible by keeping all games within the conference, while giving themselves as much flexibility as possible by only playing 10 games.

What does moving anything to the spring realistically do?

Do we definitively know cases will cease? Deaths will be non existent?

Or is it political and academic insititutions think they'll have a new president?

May as well just cancel the season or move it to Spring.
