$10M +? No way. Beside if Texas went to the Big 10, Big 10 TV Rev would prolly go up. Think about it, the state Texas is far and away the best TV market for the Big 12. The Big 10 is a huge market already. They'd gain more going to the Big 10, no doubt about it. Its still a long shot frankly that'd they go to the Big 10. It would be tough politically for them, but it makes financial sense.

Population in the Big12 area isn't large enough to trump The Big10's deal.

Only if you think Dan Beebe isn't a complete and utter moron. I'm counting on him signing an exclusive contract with Versus.

maybe so, but I dig the versus. They actually make hockey interesting

Even IF I agreed with that statement, do you really think a contract with versus would approach the kind of money the Big10 Network would give? Not a chance.

This is BS I don't believe this one bit. Texas to the Big 10 they already take in a sizable amount of money in the Big 12.

Kramer you're telling me those travel times don't play a factor come game time. Get real week in and week out that would come into play.

Arkansas is not leaving the SEC. Their fans may want it but they would lose a shite ton of money.

If you're talking about football, absolutely it would play no factor. It's an extra hour MAYBE in the air. Is that really going to effect anything?
Basketball maybe since I think they typically leave the same day, but I don't know much about basketball teams travel schedule.

Aggy here.
I agree with the Whorns on this thread. While most Texas fans probably would ejaculate over the ego trip of publicly telling the Big12 that they are too good for us hicks in the sticks, it won't happen because of the other sports and the political factors that the Atari douchebag mentioned.
DeLoss Dodds (sp?) is probably the best longterm financial manager and fundraiser in collegiate athletics; I'm sure he's got a plan in place for Texas to make more off TV, but anyone who tries to argue that he would join the Big 10 for $7million more a year in ONE SPORT while adding expenses and leaving the fans behind in every other sport isn't seeing the full revenue picture.
Texas isn't some one-horse program where the football guys live in penthouses and the women's hockey team is housed in an abandoned barn; it's one of a handful of only a handful of Athletic Departments with multiple revenue streams and high interest in non-revenue sports.
If you want some idea of the breadth of their revenue stream at present, consider that the university bookstore recently opened up a retail location on some of the priciest real estate in Houston just to sell gear to alumni and t-shirt fans.

This would be terrible for CFB in general. One thing that makes CFB better than pro is partly conference affiliations and regional rivalries. Although UT and OU would still play, it wouldn't have near the impact if in difference conferences (see UM vs OSU).
If this happens, the concept of conferences will be tested because now the idea of just try to lump the best TV deal schools together becomes the overall mantra.

Texas to the B10 isn't going to happen. All other sports travel costs would increase significantly enough, when the dollar is already tight in sports. Not going to happen right now.
Edit: It would be a bad move on Texas part, great for the B10. B10 country has some of the largest population losing areas in the nation, Texas has some of the largest gaining. Texas would be better suited to stay the course with the B12.

this whole notion cracks me up, as it has consumed 90% of the talk around town the last day and a half
the new PAC-10 commish was in town last thursday having lunch with Dodds trying to pitch the same thing
I think 100% that a move needs to be made, but they need to restructure the BigXII around UT, A&M, OU, TT, and Nebraska - what and how they go about it, I dont have the answer, but the conference is too top-heavy. Jumping ship just because the conference signed a shitty TV contract is plain dumb.

I'd like to see the SEC man-up and grab Texas AND Oklahoma before anyone else could.

Can't see it happening, Texas is the Big 12!

Money talks. And both schools would make more money in the SEC...especially an expanded SEC that added Texas and Oklahoma to an already loaded conference...than it ever could in the Big XII, and probably the Big Ten as well.
