Tomlin issued statement

LINK

Statement by Mike Tomlin on Ben Roethlisberger:
Ben Roethlisberger had an MRI on his right elbow Sunday evening and it was determined by the Steelers’ medical team that surgery will be required. We expect the surgery will be scheduled for this week. He will be placed on our Reserve/Injured List and is out for the season.

The old school QB's taking a hit this week. Sad.

Maybe they’ll sign Devlin Hodges to their active roster. He played well in the preseason and is probably one of the best FCS QBs of all time (played at Samford in Birmingham). He’s currently on their practice squad, but since they traded Josh Dobbs, they’ll need a backup.

Same injury that ended Bradshaw's career.

Ben is probably done.

Ben used to be a pretty shtty dude. Could probably be a better leader at times but he never quits on his team.

He has won more games for them over the years than managed/lost.

I'd be blown away if he didn't just retire at some point during this process.

If its Tommy-John surgery, and most indications are that it is, he will retire.

I don't see any way he comes back next year.

I thought he was going to retire at the end of the season anyway. This makes the decision a whole lot easier.

This is going to save Tomlin’s job, isn’t it?

At least Rudolph will get a full season to prove whether or not he’s a worthy starter. Could be the perfect year to be terrible and get one of the top tier QB’s.

Would be an interesting cherry on top to him getting mad at them drafting Rudolph the same year he claimed he was thinking about retiring if he ends up getting replaced by Rudolph here and BB does retire

I'm a Steelers fan and I'm sort of ok with this. Ben was fading hard and looked bad the first game and a half.

We've got some young talent in Watt, Juju, Bush and Conner. It may be rebuild time, but I don't think Ben was capable of a Super Bowl run any more, so this is only accelerating the inevitable.

The only part that bums me out is wasting a stellar O and D line.
