It's just a really old stadium. I know they've renovated it since the Bama/Texas NCG, but it just felt really outdated.I get that is supposed to be part of the charm, but out of the 11 SEC Stadiums I've been to back after the game I would have probably ranked all of them except Vandy as better than the Rose Bowl.

How many SEC stadiums are in Alabama's fight song?
FWIW, I grew up in So Cal so I'm biased about both venues, but the Coliseum has great history and the Rose Bowl has better sight lines for football games.

Well the song was written in the 1920's or 30's. A lot has changed since then. Although the song references the game more so than the stadium.

Never been to the rose bowl but the coliseum is a dump. It’s in the hood (600k housss WTF) and the stadium itself is outdated. Not to mention the cheapest beer/food was 15-20 bucks.

Rose Bowl easily.
I’ll admit that the stadium itself is fairly bland but the setting in the San Gabriel mountains in Pasadena is amazing. And (relative to the rest of the LA area) it’s not that difficult to get in or out of.
The coliseum is just as bland as a stadium and is a shitty part of LA.

Rose Bowl is in a pretty venue and great part of town. Coliseum not so much. Coliseum has more history

Because both the Coliseum and the Rose Bowl were built around the same time as the Big House at Michigan. So the seating is low and wide, and the average fan sits further away from the field than is the case with modern stadiums.
The Coliseum
The Rose Bowl
Now compare the seating and sight lines of both stadiums to LSU's Tiger Stadium...
...notice the angle of the stands at the first two stadiums as opposed to Tiger Stadium. It's a much steeper angle at Tiger Stadium than the low shallow bowls of the two California stadiums. Fans sit closer to the field, and have a better view at Tiger Stadium as a result.
Tiger Stadium has also been renovated more, with over $80 million spent on it just since 2014. As a result it has/will have before next season more bathrooms and concessions, all of which have been or in the process of being renovated.
Additionally, one of the things people often overlook in a stadium when rating it is how easy it is to get to/from the seats. Tiger Stadium excels at this because of how many exits there are in the stands...over a hundred.
Lastly, Tiger Stadium has much more in the way of premium seating. This is not really a surprise, since SEC stadiums tend to have much more premium seating than other conferences. The only college stadiums with 100+ suites and 4,000+ club seats are all in the SEC.
We just have a higher standard for stadiums in the conference.

Rose Bowl.....its so much more than just the game and the stadium. The setting and views are spectacular!!

The construction of Tiger Stadium, and therefore the angle of seating in the old bowl part, was basically of the same era as the Big House, Coliseum and Rose Bowl.
The difference in configuration has to do, I would think, with the fact that those other stadiums are in large part built into the ground, where as Tiger Stadium is built from the ground up, and has nothing to do really with the era of construction.
The Coliseum and USC abut South Central L.A., not Compton. It's still hood, but no more so than what abuts LSU really.

There was a style prevalent in stadium construction back then that the Big House, Rose Bowl, and Coliseum were all a part of. You can see that in various stadiums around the country...low, shallow bowls and oval construction.
Tiger Stadium went very much against the grain when it was constructed. It's why it's so unique. Current building codes prevent construction of stands with the same degree of slant that Tiger Stadium has. Tiger Stadium's stands are grandfathered in.

They both are iconic places. The Rose Bowl has more seats with better viewing all the way around as the Coliseum has the peristyle end where there is limited seating (SC makes fans from other teams sit there). Both of them have crappy seats with not much leg room. All of the endzone seats in the Rose Bowl are benches with no backs. The Coli has only seats all the way around and is being substantially upgraded by SC over the next couple of years as they add suites, etc. The Rose Bowl has a lack of restrooms and concessions.
Parking is a nightmare at the Rose Bowl and leaving the place can take a couple of hours. I hate going to games at the Rose Bowl. With the Coliseum, you can take the train directly there from the Westside and Pasadena (good parts of town) and not worry about parking.
Tailgating is good at both places. Golf course at the Rose Bowl and on SC campus or Expo Park at the Coliseum.
You are much closer to the action at Tiger Stadium than either the Rose Bowl or Coliseum.

Coliseum for the history, Rose Bowl for the setting.
Both buildings probably need to be renovated though.
