you guys are going to sit there and honestly say soccer is as mainstream to the public as baseball, basketball, and football?

No. It will never overtake football and probably not the other two. But, it is gaining in popularity every year that Americans are being exposed to the highest level of play.

If the astros weren't the worst team in history it wouldn't even be close. But, Houston has a lot of foreigners, gays, and libs, so soccer should be popular here.

How many times will your argument evolve?

First soccer isn't even close to mainstream.

Then well it kinda is but not really because they don't talk about it on ESPN radio.

Then it will never be more popular than the MLB.

Well, wait, it will never be more popular than the MLB in cities that have good teams.

Well, the Dynamo outdraw the Astros in a top 5 largest city in the country but it's not mainstream.

Move along

But you just said it wasn't.

It isn't popular nation-wide.

In Houston, the coverage (chronicle, tv) still is Texans 1st, Rockets 2nd, Astros 3rd, Dynamos 4th.

I don't see how you don't understand that.

B.S., but this is why it isn't catching on as fast as it could in the U.S. You soccer queens present it as "sports vegetables." In other words, you act as though you're more cultured or educated because you like soccer and look down on someone who views it as "boring."

The Gold Cup Final got better ratings than MLB or UFC that day and that was without our best players and not playing Mexico.

Did soccer rape your boyfriend and make you watch or something?

Ah, using terms like "foreigners, gays, and libs", go finish your 6 pack of bud heavy and change the screen door to your trailer while you're at it.

What terms would you prefer? It's the truth. Houston is a large city, thus it has a high % of gays. Not sure what term you would prefer me to use.

With the business climate and oil country and medical fields, Houston has a high percentage of foreigners. You know, those not originating from the U.S. Or would you prefer me to call them "peoples from another land."

Houston elected an openly lesbian mayor and it has had a democratic lean for a while now. How is Houston not "liberal?"

I don't understand why someone can't point out the facts here without being accused of being ignorant.

Well I did catch Cowheards show a while back and he kept talking about younger people being more interested in soccer than baseball. ESPN radio tends to just talk about some of the same stuff over and over and it's not always about sports.

I post a lot on the Soccer Board and I'm one of the top posters in the Monday Night Raw threads on the OT. Am I really presenting myself as cultured?

I guess we need to define mainstream. It's behind MLB, NFL, and the NBA and probably the NHL too. So, I'd say it's popularity is greater than say boxing, but it's still not mainstream in American culture yet. It's kind of like UFC. It is growing, but it's still not quite there.

Do you seriously deny that if the Astros weren't HISTORICALLY bad that they would easily outdraw the Dynamo. The astros had some of the best attendance just a mere 5-7 yeras ago.

Anyone here who thinks soccer is boring or a gay sport wor whatever, flip it to espn2 right now where 2 of the best clubs in the world are playing a preseason match, unbelievable amount of talent on the field.

Every soccer fan I've known scoffs and gets butthurt when I say it's a little boring to me.

They can't just accept that I don't find it as entertaining as football or basketball.

I don't get butthurt when people say baseball is boring even though I'm a baseball fan.

WWE has gotten to a point where it doesn't even try to hide the fact that it is theater, so kind of.

Firstly there are like 74 soccer leagues. Therefore you have a ton of games for flops to happen. No one is combing through all Euro basketball games to look for flops. Secondly, any sport that has fouls will have flops. Hell, youll see Dlineman throught their hands in the air and fall down to get holding calls.

Just look at this thread. I say I don't like soccer because it's boring and has too much flopping and there are numerous accounts of people calling me uneducated despite me probably having a better education than most on this board.

Watching it right now. Would still rather watch the Braves, preseason football, or a college football live show. Kinda boring. Sorry man.

Is the lack of score so far bothering you? Lot of people have problems with that.

Makes sense. Those are your favorite teams/sports. I for one think baseball is extremely boring...so slow, lot of down time.
