To have an actual champion like every other sport.

ding ding ding

I know one day I'll run into a foreign sports fan who will ask me to explain college football

I will then explain all of it and I worry that he will laugh at me. A lot.

The real reason is to have a bunch of good football games to watch... and most years this will include an extra LSU game!

And there will be the same discussion once the '9th' team or whatever is snubbed out.

Sounds like something to go under the BCS column to me.

I don't think you get the fact that this is EXACTLY what the University Presidents want and like. The game is at an all time high in popularity. The attendance records keep falling, and the Cash keeps pouring in despite the state of the Economy.

People on this board are already predicting who will be on the LSU KICKOFF team next year!!!! ESPN just paid a gazillion dollars for the rights to broadcast the BCS.

Don't think for one minute that they care if people are "upset". Next week at work, 99% of the country won't give a frick about Utah or USC or Texas. I already don't.

Don't fight it bro. It is what it is.

That's the biggest one to me for sure. I used to be really anti-playoff, but I've changed my mind. 8 teams is fine as long as the top 4 get to host the 1st round. There still has to be an incentive to go undefeated.

won't ever happen

and this is actually an oft-forgotten logistical problem of a playoff

This is a huge hurdle. There are so many logistical problems that the pro-playoff guys seem to gloss over. Do you really expect a fan-base to travel for their conference championship game and then the 3 weeks of playoffs? To keep the sanctity of the regular season more intact, in an 8-team playoff, I'd actually like to see the top seeds host both the quarters and the semis.

maybe, maybe not

what i do expect is for pro-playoff people to forget the fact that colleges often aren't located in metropolitan areas, while every NFL team is in a metropolitan area. the difference in available money to be spent is very, very different

i just don't see the NCAA allowing schools to host "home" playoff games

you're talking about $9-12M in net profit those schools could make that only 4 schools could make

I think it'd have to be split up somehow. The reward I'm talking about is home-field advantage, not more profit.

not gunna happen, and i don't see how you could

even if slice off 10% and you split it up amongst playoff teams, that's still more haves and have nots

Are you telling me that Richmond and Montana fans have more disposable money than LSU and USC fans?

It's apples and oranges, but if App St can play 15 games, LSU can play 15 games.

They say "you can't do that in major college football," well why not? Both teams are full of student athletes. One shouldn't be treated any different than the other, and if you're worried about injury over a 15 game season, get ready for the NFL.

The BCS is a lot closer to the system the EPL, Serie A, etc uses than a playoff.

this is the single biggest reason this will NEVER happen

also, when people say, just use the current bowl locations. well thats even dumber, bc then the team that wins the championship will collect three bowl shares, and all of them will be large bowl shares. people bitch about how the small schools cant compete. this would actually make it HARDER for the small schools to compete
