re: Best "City-Wide" Rivalries in Professional Sports?

I moved eight years ago. Everyone still hated all NYC teams on principle and rooted for all DC teams save the Redskins because of Jack Kent Cooke keeping a team out of Baltimore. I still go back 3-4 times a year, and everyone I know still loathes anything to do with NYC. We go drinking in DC, and most have softened towards the Skins. But not NYC.
Screw New York just because.

The people of Pittsburgh and Cleveland do not like each other despite the Browns irrelevance.

Although to be fair to the Rams, they had a run of 23-3-1 vs the 49ers before their rise in the 80s.

Miami and New York have an intense rivalry in the NBA and AFC East.
Houston and Dallas is growing now that the Astros are going to the AL. If only they were relevant.

nothing will ever top NY and Boston... Yankees-Red Sox, Patriots vs. Jets and two Super Bowls against the Giants, Knicks-Celtics, and Bruins-Rangers

Saints and Hornets

Legit. Across the board.
White Sox-Tigers might actually be the worst in terms of the fans.

Bears-Lions isn't a rivalry...

I know people who would disagree with that statement.

We care about Pittsburgh and NY.
Yeah, but that's just football. Neither city has a basketball team and Baltimore doesn't have an NHL team, and the Pirates-Orioles matchups in the World Series were decades ago.
So that's just a one sport rivalry. I think the OP was looking for multiple sports. I wouldn't count Pittsburgh-Philly anymore because the Pirates have been in a different division, not to mention irrelevant, since 1994. Pens-Flyers is great but doesn't qualify for an overall city rivalry.

Those cities only go head to head in one sport. And that's not even a rivalry. A bug and a windshield are not rivals.

You completely missed the point of this topic but im not surprised. One football rivalry and thats it. The Tribe and Buccos no one cares since they never play and pittsburgh does not have a NBA team so lots of yinzers like the cavs
